Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Gets New MIUI 10 Update with Multiple Bugs Fixes, November Android Security Patch

The Redmi Note 5 budget smartphone from Xiaomi is currently receiving a new MIUI 10 Global Stable ROM update. Xiaomi posted the same on its MIUI forums and asked users to try out the new update for feedback. This update is mostly a bug fixer update, just like the previous one, and doesn’t really bring anything new to the phone. Only the global variant of the Redmi Note 5 will be seeing this update. The MIUI 10 update is still based on Android 8.1 Oreo as this device will most likely not receive the Android 9.0 Pie based MIUI 10.

MIUI 10 Global Stable ROM for Redmi Note 5

If you own a Redmi Note 5, then you should soon start seeing a notification for the new MIUI update. The build number for the latest ROM is In case you haven’t received the update via OTA, you can head to the MIUI Forum and download the firmware file. This would mean that you would have to flash the file manually via recovery. If you know how to do that, then you should, if not, we recommend waiting for the OTA notification.

Redmi Note 5 Update

As we said earlier, this new update is mainly a bug fixer. It fixes several bugs such as the screen going black when launching WhatsApp for the first time and carrier name being display even if there was no SIM in the slot. The update also fixes a bug that caused the battery status of Bluetooth headsets to not show after enabling media sound. That’s pretty much all of the bug fixes present in this latest MIUI 10 update.

Apart from that, the update installs the November Android security patch on your phone. This will ensure better safety and security against malware. However, we are in December now and Google has already released a newer patch. We should see this new patch being included in the next update. Unfortunately, the Redmi Note 5 will not be updated to Android 9.0 Pie. Xiaomi usually only provides one major software update to its entry level smartphones. The Note 5 received a major update to Android 8.1 Oreo recently and it will remain on this software forever. Of course, you can head to the XDA Developers forum and flash Custom ROMs, but the phone will not receive anymore major software updates.

Redmi Note 5 Still Sold by Xiaomi

The Redmi Note 5 is still being sold in India and is a good budget smartphone. In the last week, there were a few reports suggesting that the phone has been discontinued by Xiaomi. The reports turned out to be false and the company has confirmed that it will continue to sell the Note 5 and even the Note 5 Pro for some time.

However, the Redmi Note 5 has been cast into the shadows, thanks to the newly announced Redmi 6 Pro. Even when there was no Redmi 6 Pro, the Note 5 did not receive as much attention and sales. This is because the Redmi Note 5 Pro was a much better option and the price difference wasn’t too much. The new Redmi 6 Pro is the successor to the Note 5 and it is available for sale in India as well.

The Note 5 is available at a starting price of INR 9,999 and comes with a 5.99-inch FHD+ display, Snapdragon 625 processor, up to 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, 12MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, and a 4000mAh battery.
