A live photo of the as yet unannounced Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 and the Redmi 6 Plus surfaced online. The raw display modules were listed on Chinese eCommerce platform AliExpress. The listing, which claims the display units belong to the upcoming smartphones, reveals several interesting details about the visual aspects, features and design aesthetics.
Xiaomi recently launched the eagerly awaited Redmi 6 Series smartphones in India. The 6 Series comprises of the entry-level Redmi 6A, the all-purpose budget smartphone Redmi 6, and the upper-end affordable Android phone, the Redmi 6 Pro. Interestingly, there appears to be one more mystery Redmi 6 smartphone that supposedly goes by the name of Redmi 6 Plus. Moreover, the successor to the popular Redmi Note 5 Pro is already in development at Xiaomi, but there has been no official confirmation from the Chinese smartphone and electronics giant.
Still, two replacement display units, primarily intended for third-party repair houses and service centers, surfaced online. Two separate listings about LCD displays complete with digitizer as well as basic assembly tools recently appeared on AliExpress. They are obviously not from Xiaomi but do not fail to mention “2018 New Original for Xiaomi”. The vendor specifically mentions the “LCD Display Touch Screen Digitizer Assembly LCD + Display” belongs to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6, and the Redmi 6 Plus.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 6, Redmi 6 Plus: AliExpress Listing Reveals Screen Type, Size, and Notch
The listing includes images of the LCD display. The images reveal a notch display with several cutouts for sensors and camera. The listing for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 mentions the screen type is LCD and the display measures 6.18-inch diagonally with a resolution of 1080 x 2246. Given the fact that the Redmi series belongs to affordable Android smartphone segment, the screen type, size and resolution seem relevant. However, the asking price for the replacement display is certainly a little high. The vendor is asking for $60 (Rs. 4,200 approx.) for the display. An ongoing promotion brings down the price to $56.40 (Rs. 3,950 approx.).
Interestingly, the same vendor also claims to have the replacement display for Redmi 6 Plus. According to the item description, the screen is 5.99-inches with a 1080 x 2160 resolution. Strangely, the display size and the resolution seem to be quite similar to the Redmi 5 Plus. However, the image attached with the listing shows a significantly bigger notch than the one found on Redmi Note 6. Moreover, it has a total of five individual cutouts.
The image suggests Xiaomi is embedding several sensors within the notch. Two of the large cutouts are identical and circular in shape. These could belong to front-facing dual camera setup. A flat cutout placed in the middle could be the speaker. Another small circular cutout could be for a flash, and placed alongside the smallest could be for an IR scanner for better Face Unlock. The Redmi 5 Plus has a single front-facing camera and a LED flash. In other words, if the listing is true, Xiamoi could be offering some serious upgrades. The vendor is asking for $52 (Rs. 3,600), with ongoing promotion slashing the price to $48.88 (Rs. 3,400).
Redmi Note 6, Redmi 6 Plus: Expected Specifications
Quite recently, a smartphone with model number Xiaomi M1806E7TG appeared on the FCC with FCC ID 2AFZZ-RMSE7TG. This could be the Redmi Note 6. Another device with codename M1806E7TH was spotted as well. Smartphone enthusiasts believe this device could be the Redmi Note 6 Pro. According to previous reports, the device runs on Android MIUI 9. An octa-core 2.0GHz Snapdragon chipset, perhaps the 710 could power the device. It would be available in 3GB/4GB RAM, 32GB/64GB storage options. The smartphone could have 12MP or higher rear-facing camera, and perhaps an 8MP front-facing camera.
Meanwhile, the Redmi 6 Plus hasn’t been in the news. In fact, even the existence of another device in the Redmi 6 device lineup is exciting news. Moreover, it is quite likely that the Redmi 6 Plus might be called the Redmi 6 Pro. If true, several reports claim the smartphone will have either Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 or the MediaTek Helio P60 processor clocked at 2.0GHz. It is quite possible the smartphone may arrive with MIUI 10 Stable ROM based on Android 9 Pie. Rumors also mention the mystery Redmi 6 smartphones would be available in several colors, including Rose/Champagne Gold, White, Blue, Red, Pink, Gray, Silver, and Black.
Despite the visual clarity in the AliExpress listings, there is a lot of ambiguity about the Redmi Note 6 and the Redmi 6 Plus. However, we at MSP Gear will certainly update our readers about any new information about these mystery Xiaomi smartphones.
