Xiaomi Sold More Than 7 Million Smart TVs in India Over 3 Years

Xiaomi entered the smart TV space in 2018 in India.

Chinese smartphone company Xiaomi has rapidly expanded its portfolio in India since its entry in 2014. The company, which was primarily known for its affordable smartphones under the Mi and Redmi branding, leaped into the premium space earlier this year. Prior to this, Xiaomi also expanded its portfolio in other categories like laptops, smart TVs, etc. The company launched a plethora of budget, mid-range and a few smart TVs in India. These include something as affordable as the Mi TV 4A 32” to the ultra-premium Mi QLED TV 75-inch. Within a span of slightly over three years, Xiaomi has announced that it sold over 7 million smart TVs in India.

The company entered the smart TV space in 2018 in India. Since then, it has sold over 7 million smart TVs, claiming the crown of the number 1 smart TV brand in India. The milestone was achieved with both Mi and Redmi TVs combined. “The size of the Smart TV business has doubled from 2018 to 2021 and we are proud to have played a key role in driving the Smart TV adoption in India. We are also extremely humbled by the reception that we have received from our consumers across India so far. As we continue to expand our portfolio in the market, we will focus on serving our ambition of bringing innovation to all, thereby making television viewing an enjoyable experience,” Eshwar Nilakantan, Category Lead – Smart TVs, Xiaomi India said.

Content consumption on smart TVs saw a rise last year, mainly due to people spending more time at home during the lockdown last year. Xiaomi claims that its 4K product portfolio recorded 53x jump, resulting in capturing a massive chunk of the market. While 32-inch smart TVs remained dominant with new customers shifting from non smart to smart TV, the company observed existing users migrating to larger screen size and 4K within that segment.

Xiaomi smart TVs come with the company’s PatchWall based on top of Android TV. The content platform offers shows and movies from 30+ content partners in over 15 different languages.

The company currently offers the Mi LED TV 4A Pro 32-inch as its most affordable smart TV in India priced at Rs 14,999. The 40-inch Mi TV 4A is Xiaomi’s most affordable 40-inch smart TV in India priced at Rs 21,999. Other products include the Redmi Smart TV X55, Mi TV 5X Redmi Smart TV X50, etc.
