ASUS Zenfone 3 Max ZC553KL

The Asus Zenfone 3 Max is the successor to the very popular Asus Zenfone Max. The ‘Max’ series from Asus is all about providing long battery backup. We reviewed the Asus Zenfone Max Z010D back in May 2016 on our blog Gear by MySmartPrice, and we found the device’s battery backup to be promising. However, the device did not perform that well in other areas such as audio and performance. The Asus Zenfone 3 Max promises to overcome the weakness of its predecessor by providing better speakers for a louder sound, and a more powerful chipset for better performance.

The Asus Zenfone 3 Max comes with an all-metal body; it has chamfered edges that enhance the look of the device. The rounded edges allow holding the device comfortably in one's hand. On the front of the device, gone are the concentric circles, and now it has been taken place by a full glass design; it has three navigational keys on the bottom. The device measures 151.4 x 76.2 x 8.3 mm, and weighs 175g. The display on the Asus Zenfone 3 is a Full HD unit with a screen size of 5.5-inch. Asus has used an IPS panel to ensure better viewing angles. The display is protected with an oleophobic coating to prevent smudges and fingerprints.

There is a 16-megapixel camera on the back of the device and an 8-megapixel camera on the front. The primary camera is packed with features like phase detection & laser autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash and the capability to record Full HD videos. The secondary camera has an aperture of f/2.2 for better performance under low-light conditions. Asus has powered the Zenfone 3 Max with Snapdragon 430 chipset and 2GB of RAM. The Snapdragon 430 chipset has an octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU and an Adreno 505 graphics processor. The internal storage is 32GB, and it can be expanded via a microSD card.

The Asus Zenfone 3 Max houses Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with Asus’s ZenUI 3.0. The software feels smooth and polished. Although, it is plagued by many unwanted features and applications. The device consists of a dual-SIM card slot with support for 4G LTE along with VoLTE. Other connectivity options include Bluetooth v4.1, microUSB v2.0, and Wi-Fi a/b/g/n.  The USP of the device is its large 4,100 mAh battery.
