The Best Budget Smartphone Just Gets Better
By Udit, 97 months ago
Motorola has finally released the the new Moto G 2nd Generation. The success of the earlier model clearly shows how good it was. The new model has simply got better without much of a price increase. There have been great changes in the phone which really makes it even better. Complete analysis:- Built and Design: The Motorola has worked hard as increase in size has not affected the weight that much. The phone has same plastic material but that does not make it look cheap. One who has a glance would definitely turn back to again have a look. The phone is curved and give a good grip for holding. The edges are well cut like the earlier. Overall, there has been no change in the design. Durability: It has the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 3, this protects the screen from scratches. The mobile looks as tough as the earlier one, so it's strong and hard. Handiness: The increase in screen size has resulted in increase in weight. It weighs 149 gm but as all large screen phones are difficult to carry in pockets, the same is possessed by it also. Display: The newer model has a 5 inch screen as compared to 4.7" inch available in the earlier one. Both the phones have same resolution of 1280x720 pixels but the earlier once had 329 ppi whereas the new one has only 294 ppi. The text appeared to be far more crispier in the old model. The colors are not as natural and rich like in the earlier model. The screen has increased in size but the quality has decreased. Overall, the screen is good. Processor: The newer carries the same 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400, Quad core processor with 1GB RAM which was also there in the earlier model. The phones runs butter smooth and doesn't lags frequently. It lags during high multi tasking and running of big apps like FIFA 14 for hours. As both the phones have the same processor, they also have the same Adreno 305 GPU running at 450MHz, therefore there is no change in graphics. Operating System: It comes with Android KitKat 4.4.4 . The operating system is integrated with the phone's user interface which makes the device run really smooth. The new Android L would also be made freely available and so one can upgrade it and make the phone even better. Camera: The quality of camera both in terms of quality and megapixels have increased a lot. It has an 8MP rear and a 2MP front camera as compared to 5MP and 1.2MP present in the earlier model. The rear camera in this new phone has removed the disappointment which its earlier model had. The pictures clicked are cooler and better. The image quality of pic clicked in low light has improved but still it needs a lot more improvement. The flash though helps a bit in low light but still that's not sufficient. Memory: It comes with a 16GB inbuilt memory and also has an option of expandable memory which can be expanded up to 32GB. The expandable memory option was missing in the earlier model and bringing in this feature in the phone just removes the tension regarding the leftover space from the mind of the user. Still one needs to use the inbuilt memory intelligently as the data and other things stored in memory card takes more time to access. Battery: The battery backup is good, both the models have same battery. The battery backup of Moto G2 is lesser compared to the earlier model because of the increased screen size which consume more battery. The phone still lasts almost a day on average usage. Sim: Like the previous model it also has dual sim GSM + GSM option. Pros: 1) Value for money as the phone offers the best in this price range. 2) Good Design which makes it look nice. 3) Good Processor which makes it run smooth. 4) Expandable memory option makes you store volume of data without any tension regarding space. 5) Camera Megapixels and quality has been tremendously improved. The pictures clicked are far more brighter and lively. 6) Latest Android Operating System along with the option to free upgrade to the next OS Android L. Cons: 1) Poor screen quality because of decrease in pixels per inch. 2) The battery could have been made bigger to give a better backup. 3) There should have been a change in design to give a better feel. Verdict: The phone is best in the range. The cons are the points on which company have sacrificed to keep the price low. The screen and battery backup is not that bad also. I would give it 8.5/10 and would surely ask you to go for it. it's the best budget smartphone available in the market.(read more)
