Truly horrible phone, personal experience, do not buy Lumia devices at whatever price you get
By 8572435, 84 months ago
This is my second Lumia device after the lumia 800. I have used the device for the past 3 months and here is my advice - DO NOT BUY IT at whatever price you get at whichever shop.
This is a horrible device and this is coming from an ardent Lumia and Nokia fan. I have used Lumia 800 for 3 years and always used Nokia phones since time immemorial, have suggested lumia to almost all my friends and family members and in fact forced some people to buy it. The Lumia 800 was an excellent device with its own software limitations however this Lumia 830 is a truly disgusting device. The amount of call drops I faced during the first 2 weels of usage over various networks in various cities is outrageous. On top of call drops the phone is truly dumb, i wonder why Nokia even dares call their Lumia phones smartphones. The internet on this device has a mind of its own, it works sometimes and it doesnt upon its own wish.
I am embarrassed in front of my friends when a simple google search takes ages to fetch results while my phone shows its on 3G. Its equally disturbing to see that once smooth windows phone interface is no longer smooth and swift but has lags and is awfully jittery. I showed the phone to the idiots at the Nokia care, all they did was format my phone and removed all the data stating it is probably a software issue. Call drop and internet issues kept on bugging me and on the second visit the customer care guys changed some component inside which finally made the calls marginally better. Dis-functional parts on a brand new phone, Kudos Nokia. And now the device refuses to connect to internet when I need, despite being on 3G and Wifi, I cannot use internet. My alcatel phone which costed Rs 3000 has faster internet that the Lumia 830.
I filed complaints after complains through various channels to Nokia to replace my handset and not once have they even assured to take action. Its been 2 weeks they have kept my device under 'observation' and I got a disturbing call 2 days back from the customer care that they are reviewing the device and will take 10 more days to revert with a solution. Upon threatening to sue them they were quite indifferent and the senior guy on the other side of the phone told me I am free to do whatever but they will not replace my handset. Wow! I have tweeted to Lumia about 5 times so far and they have not even acknowledged my cry for help.
A brand that has no reputation in the market and no trust from buyers, I wonder how they are taking their rare breed of customers for granted. Truly pathetic phone and an even horrible bunch of people running the company with no care for their customers. My humble request, please dont buy a lumia device, there are no apps truly to make your experience good and on top the devices come with no quality control.(read more)

Lumia 830-The Grand master
By Rachit Jain, 92 months ago
I have used this phone for a month and I am sharing my experience with all of you. Design and Build- I would not exaggerate but yes this is the kind of design I want from a flagship smartphone. I would say that the design is far more than unique and the device looks wonderful. With the aluminium back and the speakers at the bottom along with a Pure View, this phone is fabulous. In terms of its slimness and weight, this is a beast. Weighing only 150 gms, it feels really light in hand. The Dolby digital Sound enhancements fill up the entire house with its soothing and wonderful sound. Display- It is not the best out there, but on a 5 inch Gorilla Glass 3, 1280 x 720 pixels look great. With the Clearblack display technology on an IPS LCD screen, the text is pretty clear in the sunlight and offers quite good viewing angles. The display is crisp, sharp and clear but with 294 ppi it's not the best. Camera- As you know, Lumia Camera is the best camera in the market. With a 10MP Carl Zeiss Pureview, what else is required. Leave your DSLR at home and take this cutey along. It captures photos and videos in HD and offers some great camera applications and useful features. However with a 0.9 MP secondary camera it's a bit disappointment for Selfie lovers. Performance, Software and Storage-On paper, it has an outdated 1.2 Ghz snapdragon 400 quad core processor clubbed with a meagre 1GB RAM and handful 16GB memory(which is of course expandable). However, the specs don't tell the whole story as such. First of all you should know that the Windows platform is entirely different from the so-called laggy Android. Its simply unique in its optimizations and performance. With 1GB RAM in windows 8.1 update 1(Lumia denim), it's like a 2GB in Android. Trust me. All sorts of heavy games like Asphalt 8 run buttery smooth on this device. Day-to day tasks are performed at a blazing speed in comparison to Android. Apps open very fast and the interface looks pretty snappy and cool. The tiles are customizable and different live backgrounds can be set. As you have widgets in Android, this device has Live tiles as its widgets which update you with all sorts of things. There is the action centre, Word Flow-the world's fastest keyboard, and widgets etc. So, Android's time is over now. You must have seen that the aim of Android has been to make the interface more animative as seen in Android L and provide with heavy hardware like octa cores and 3GB RAMS, etc. They have never ever tried to optimize their software for a better performance on a less powerful hardware. With the bloatware in Android, the phone lags after a certain time(Not on Nexus, probably). But with windows, after 3 years, still your phone is a brand new one. For those who feel that the App store of Android is much much more than Windows, I would agree. But a question may be asked? Are all your apps virus free and scanned and optimized like in Windows? Are all the apps useful? The answer is No. In windows you will find all sorts of apps you require, even any launcher(Kitkat Launcher if you need). Windows store is growing manifold in terms of apps, customizations, usability and of course optimizations and the experience. Ask any guy to name 5 apps that he uses in Android and are not in Windows. He won't be able to name 3. I promise and I challenge him/her. So, just don't worry about these things. Also, Windows platform is not resource hungry as of Android so it won't require more specs. It is just a flagship smartphone Battery- The battery life is not as good as expected. It is a 2200 mah battery and would last for a day max. So for travellers and lazy people who don't want to plug in their devices early should think twice. However, with various apps like battery saver, battery can be preserved. Overall, it's a good bargain considering the price tag of 25k, however, other competitors like Lumia 730 might lead to Lumia 830's unsuccess. I would say if you love windows interface, don't think and just buy it. It is a rugged smartphone and would live for at least 3-4 years in today's temporary smartphone world!!(read more)
