Croma's new retail concept focuses on smartphones, wearables and personal technology, with the first store opening in Mumbai and expansion planned for Bengaluru and Pune
Croma has introduced Edge by Croma, a new digital-first neighbourhood retail format aimed at making personal technology shopping more accessible while strengthening its omnichannel retail strategy.
Croma brings its retail experience closer to consumers
Unlike Croma's large-format electronics stores, Edge is designed as a compact neighbourhood format that focuses on products consumers purchase more frequently, such as smartphones, wearables, accessories and other personal technology devices. The idea is to combine the convenience of local retail with Croma's established strengths in transparent pricing, expert assistance and after-sales service.
According to Croma, demand for personal technology products has been growing rapidly as upgrade cycles become shorter and consumers increasingly prefer shopping closer to home. Edge aims to address this shift by offering a curated product portfolio while also providing access to Croma's wider catalogue whenever required.
While the stores are smaller in size, Edge retains many of the services customers expect from a Croma outlet. Buyers can access financing options, exchange programmes, installation assistance and after-sales support, allowing the new format to function as an extension of Croma's broader omnichannel ecosystem rather than as an independent retail chain.
The retailer believes this model will help bridge the gap between traditional neighbourhood mobile stores and organised electronics retail by offering a more consistent buying experience backed by nationwide support infrastructure.
The launch comes at a time when India's smartphone and personal technology categories continue to outpace several traditional consumer electronics segments. Instead of relying solely on destination stores located in malls and commercial centres, Croma is now moving closer to residential neighbourhoods where a significant portion of smartphone purchases already take place.
This approach also reflects a broader shift in organised retail. Consumers increasingly expect faster access to products, personalised guidance and convenient after-sales support without travelling to large retail outlets. By creating a neighbourhood-first format, Croma is attempting to capture these purchases while reinforcing its omnichannel strategy.
For the company, Edge could also improve customer acquisition in densely populated urban markets where smaller stores are easier to scale than traditional large-format outlets. The model complements Croma's existing nationwide network of more than 560 stores across over 200 cities while strengthening its presence in one of India's fastest-growing consumer electronics categories.
Initial rollout begins in Mumbai
Edge by Croma has debuted with its first outlet in Ghatkopar East, Mumbai. The company has confirmed that Bengaluru and Pune will be among the next cities to receive the new retail format as it gradually expands across major urban markets.
Edge by Croma isn't a new product line or private-label brand, it is a new retail strategy. By creating smaller neighbourhood stores focused on personal technology, Croma is adapting to changing buying habits where convenience is becoming as important as product choice. If the format delivers the same pricing transparency, service quality and after-sales support associated with its larger stores, Edge could help Croma strengthen its position in India's increasingly competitive smartphone and personal technology retail market.
