Itel has announced that users of its 4G feature phones can now access Reliance Jio's Rs. 123 monthly recharge plan, a plan that was previously limited to Jio's own feature phone ecosystem. The move expands Jio's affordable prepaid offerings to itel's wider 4G feature phone lineup and strengthens both companies' push toward affordable connectivity across India.
The Rs. 123 plan offers unlimited voice calling to all networks along with 0.5GB of daily data for 28 days, resulting in a total of 14GB of data over the recharge cycle. According to itel, the plan can help users save roughly Rs. 1,000 annually compared to existing recharge options used by many feature phone consumers.
Jio's Full Feature Phone Recharge Portfolio Now Available on Itel Devices
Alongside the Rs. 123 recharge plan, all of Jio's existing 4G feature phone recharge options are now available across itel's 4G feature phone portfolio. These include:
- Rs. 123 plan with 28-day validity
- Rs. 234 plan with 56-day validity
- Rs. 369 plan with 84-day validity
- Rs. 1,234 plan with 336-day validity
All four plans include 0.5GB daily data benefits alongside unlimited voice calling.
Earlier, these plans were largely positioned around Jio's own feature phone lineup, making this partnership significant for users who prefer third-party feature phone brands like itel.
Itel Expands Push in Bharat's Affordable Connectivity Market
The collaboration is clearly targeted at India's budget-conscious consumers, especially across semi-urban and rural markets, where feature phones continue to remain relevant despite smartphone adoption increasing steadily.
At Rs. 123 per month, the annual recharge cost works out to roughly Rs. 1,476, which remains substantially lower than most smartphone-oriented prepaid plans offering similar calling benefits. For many users upgrading from 2G feature phones to 4G devices, this pricing could make mobile internet access more accessible without significantly increasing yearly telecom spending.
Itel says it currently operates through more than 1.3 lakh retail outlets across India alongside a network of over 1,000 service centres. The company also continues to offer a one-year counter replacement policy for manufacturing defects on its feature phones.
Bigger Ecosystem Access Could Help Both Jio and Itel
From a market perspective, this partnership benefits both brands.
For Jio, opening its feature phone recharge ecosystem beyond JioPhone hardware potentially allows it to expand its subscriber base among users who may not want to purchase locked-in Jio devices. For itel, the availability of Jio's lower-cost feature phone plans becomes a strong selling point against competing brands in the affordable feature phone segment.
The bigger opportunity here is likely the gradual migration of millions of 2G users toward affordable 4G connectivity. While smartphones continue to dominate urban markets, feature phones still remain important across several regions where affordability, battery life, and basic communication needs matter more than app ecosystems or high-end hardware.
