The Indian smartphone brand Lava is betting big on its Shark series for the Indian market. The company has today launched the Shark 2 5G in India at a starting price of Rs. 11,999. It is targeting the budget 5G smartphone users through this phone. The key USP for this phone is being touted as a large battery, a high refresh rate display, and a clean Android experience. The smartphone will be available starting June 10 across Lava retail outlets in Sonar Gold and Arya Blue colour options.
Lava Focuses on Battery Life and Everyday Performance
The Lava Shark 2 5G comes with a 6,000mAh battery paired with 18W fast charging support, which the company says is a first in the under Rs. 15,000 segment. Lava is positioning the phone around extended usage and practical everyday reliability rather than aggressive gaming-focused hardware.
The device is powered by the octa-core 6nm UNISOC T8200 processor and is available in a 4GB + 64GB configuration with support for up to 4GB virtual RAM expansion. Lava claims the phone delivers an AnTuTu v11 score of over 500,000, positioning it as a relatively performance-focused option in the budget category. Lava says the phone is designed to handle multitasking, entertainment, and daily smartphone usage comfortably while also supporting major Indian 5G bands for wider network compatibility.
120Hz Display and Clean Android 16 Experience
The smartphone features a 6.75-inch HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Lava claims the device can deliver up to 815 minutes of YouTube playback and up to 743 minutes of screen-on time.
On the software side, the Shark 2 5G runs Clean Android 16 with a bloatware-free and ad-free experience. Lava has also confirmed one Android update and two years of security updates for the device. For cameras, the smartphone includes a 13MP AI rear camera alongside a 5MP front camera. The device also comes with IP64-rated dust and water resistance for improved durability.
Lava Continues Leaning Into Clean Software and Offline Reach
With the Shark 2 5G, Lava appears to be continuing its strategy of combining clean Android software with practical hardware upgrades in the affordable segment. While brands in this category often focus heavily on specifications alone, Lava is also highlighting its bloatware-free experience and Free Service@Home support as key differentiators.
The combination of a 120Hz display, 6,000mAh battery, IP64 rating, and clean Android experience gives the Shark 2 5G a relatively balanced positioning in the sub-Rs. 15,000 category, especially for users prioritizing battery life and everyday usability over camera-heavy or gaming-centric devices. So far, this approach has worked for Lava and it has tasted success with the Agni series. However, the competition in the market continues to increase and it will be interesting to see how the Shark 2 continues to hold its ground.
