OnePlus has officially confirmed that its upcoming value flagship, the OnePlus 15R, will feature the largest battery ever seen on a OnePlus smartphone. The device will pack a massive 7,400mAh battery, positioning it as the most endurance-focused phone in the company’s lineup so far. The announcement comes ahead of the OnePlus 15R launch later this month and signals a clear shift in how aggressively OnePlus is now pushing battery capacity in the upper mid-premium segment.
The large battery will be paired with a 165Hz 1.5K AMOLED display, making the 15R a device clearly targeted at heavy users, especially gamers and power users who prioritise long screen-on time. OnePlus is branding the phone as the ultimate value flagship in its portfolio and is positioning it as a performance-first device under the popular R-series, which traditionally sits just below the company’s true flagships in pricing.
OnePlus has confirmed that the 7,400mAh unit uses its latest silicon-based battery technology to deliver higher energy density without a proportional increase in size. The company is also promising improved long-term battery health. Fast charging will continue to be a key focus, with 80W SUPERVOOC charging confirmed for the 15R despite the substantially larger battery.
From a market perspective, the battery alone places the OnePlus 15R in a new league for its expected price bracket. Most premium mid-range and affordable flagship phones in India currently ship with batteries in the 5,000mAh to 5,500mAh range. Even several flagship devices still hover around 5,000mAh. At 7,400mAh, the 15R is setting a new benchmark for endurance in the segment and directly challenges rivals such as iQOO, Realme and Redmi, all of whom have been gradually increasing battery capacities but not at this scale yet.
While OnePlus has not yet officially detailed the full hardware specifications, the OnePlus 15R will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest flagship-grade chipset, which is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and will sit just below the OnePlus 15 in the overall hierarchy. The high-refresh-rate AMOLED panel, combined with the large battery and fast charging, suggests that the brand is prioritising sustained performance rather than just peak benchmark numbers this year.
The announcement also reflects a broader shift in consumer priorities. Battery life has emerged as one of the top buying factors in the Indian smartphone market over the past two years, driven by gaming, streaming, navigation and all-day mobile payments. OnePlus appears to be responding directly to this demand by making battery capacity the headline feature of the 15R.
The OnePlus 15R is scheduled to debut alongside the OnePlus Pad Go 2 later this month. Pricing and availability details are yet to be announced, but the device is expected to be positioned in the upper mid-range to affordable flagship segment. If OnePlus is able to balance this record-breaking battery with competitive pricing, the 15R could become one of the most disruptive launches in its category this year.
