OnePlus just dropped a new look for the upcoming 15R, and it's loud. The company announced the Electric Violet color today, confirming that this “Ace Edition” will fully debut at the live keynote in Bengaluru on December 17.
It's shaping up to be a busy end to the year for smartphone launches in India, and this new model will be hitting Amazon and the OnePlus store right after the event.
A New Colourway With a Subtle Identity Shift
The biggest change here is the finish. This isn’t just a purple paint job; OnePlus is using a fiberglass back with a special texture that actually has the word “Ace” embedded into the pattern. It gives the phone a distinct, slightly bolder vibe compared to the standard models. Plus, OnePlus claims this texture is great at resisting fingerprints – a huge win if you hate smudgy glass backs.
This joins the standard Charcoal Black and Mint Green options, but the Violet version is clearly aimed at people who want their phone to stand out. It feels like a move to capture a younger crowd or just anyone bored of the usual monochrome slabs.
Hardware Positioning, Market Context & What to Expect
While the paint job is new, the engine inside is what really matters. OnePlus has confirmed the 15R Ace Edition will run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. That is a massive deal because it makes this one of the first phones in the world to rock that specific flagship chip. Usually, the “R” series gets last year’s leftovers, but OnePlus is going aggressive this time.
Even crazier is the battery. It packs a massive 7,400mAh cell. That is significantly bigger than almost anything else in the premium market right now. If you are a gamer or just glued to your screen all day, this phone is built to last forever on a single charge.
Camera-wise, it's borrowing the DetailMax Engine from the main OnePlus 15. We don’t have the full sensor specs yet, but it suggests the camera software will be doing a lot of heavy lifting to keep up with rivals from iQOO and Xiaomi.
Should you buy it?
If you are looking for pure performance, this phone should be on your radar. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 combined with that huge battery is a dream setup for power users.
The new color is cool, but ultimately, the value of this phone hangs on the price tag. If OnePlus prices the Ace Edition aggressively, it could easily be the best performance-per-rupee phone of early 2026. But if it gets too expensive, you might be better off looking at a full flagship. We will know for sure on December 17.
