The Realme 16 5G has officially launched in India, bringing a mix of practical innovations and standout features. The smartphone includes an AI-driven dual 50MP portrait camera, a massive yet lightweight 7,000mAh battery, and an industry-first rear selfie mirror that lets users frame shots using the main camera in real time. It also features an Aura Ring Flash for improved, even lighting in photos.
Realme India CMO Francis Wong said the launch reflects changing market expectations, with users seeking greater value. He added that the device focuses on meaningful innovation, long-term reliability, and a design tailored to how Indian consumers use smartphones today.
Realme 16 5G Price And Availability
The Realme 16 5G is priced at Rs 31,999 for the 8GB + 128GB variant, Rs 33,999 for the 8GB + 256GB model, and Rs 36,999 for the 12GB + 256GB configuration. The smartphone will be available starting April 6 via Flipkart and the Realme online store, and comes in Air Black and Air White colour options. Pre-orders are already open.
Realme 16 5G Specifications
One of the biggest changes in the Realme 16 5G is its design. The new model is more compact and lighter than its predecessor, featuring a 6.6-inch display and weighing 183g, compared to the Realme 15's larger 6.8-inch panel and 187g body. This makes the device easier to handle, particularly for one-handed use.
Durability has also seen a significant improvement. The phone now comes with IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings, offering better protection against dust, water, and high-pressure conditions. Dual speakers are also included, enhancing the multimedia experience.
While the design and durability have improved, the Realme 16 5G makes some trade-offs in performance. It is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6400 Turbo chipset, replacing the Dimensity 7300 found in the Realme 15. Storage is also downgraded to UFS 2.2, which may impact data speeds compared to previous models.
The display has been scaled down to a 6.57-inch AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, compared to the earlier 6.8-inch 144Hz display. Charging speeds have also dropped from 80W to 60W, meaning slightly longer charging times.
However, the 7,000mAh battery remains unchanged, continuing to be one of the phone's strongest selling points. Users can expect excellent battery life, even if charging takes a bit longer.
The camera setup on the Realme 16 5G is a mixed bag. The device features a 50MP Sony IMX852 primary sensor, which should offer improved detail and focusing. It also retains the 50MP front camera, now paired with a new "Selfie Mirror" cut-out on the rear, allowing users to frame shots using the main camera.
However, some key features have been removed. The Realme 16 5G drops optical image stabilisation (OIS) and eliminates the 8MP ultrawide camera, reducing versatility. Video recording is also limited to 1080p, compared to the dual 4K support offered by its predecessor.
On the software front, the Realme 16 5G runs Android 16 with realme UI 7.0 out of the box. This ensures longer software support compared to the Realme 15, which launched with Android 15.
Combined with improved durability and a larger cooling system, the device appears to be optimised for consistent long-term use rather than peak performance.
