TECNO has announced the launch of its upcoming smartphone, the TECNO POP X 5G, in India, with the device scheduled to debut on April 20, 2026.
The smartphone is positioned as a value-focused 5G offering, combining large battery capacity, durability features, and enhanced connectivity, as the brand looks to strengthen its presence in the entry-to-mid segment. The POP X 5G introduces USRP 3.0 technology, which the company claims can deliver up to 8X improved network speeds. This is positioned as a key differentiator, especially for users relying on stable connectivity for streaming, downloads, and online gaming. The smartphone also includes AI-powered noise cancellation for improved call clarity, targeting better voice quality in noisy environments.
Launch Timeline And Availability
The TECNO POP X 5G will officially launch on April 20 and will be available for purchase via Amazon India. Pricing has not been officially confirmed yet. Based on the pricing of the standard TECNO POP X, which starts at around ₹8,499–₹8,999 in India, the POP X 5G is expected to be positioned slightly higher. According to us, it would be realistic to expect that this phone will fall in the range of ₹10,000 to ₹12,000. This would ideally be the cost of the base variant, and there could be launch offers that can sweeten the deal further. If this is indeed the pricing, it would align with the growing budget 5G segment, where brands are increasingly focusing on battery and durability rather than raw performance.
Focus On Battery And Everyday Endurance
The device is equipped with a 6500mAh battery, aimed at delivering extended usage across gaming, streaming, and daily tasks. It also supports 45W fast charging, which is expected to reduce downtime and improve usability for users with heavy usage patterns.
Memory And Performance Positioning
TECNO is highlighting memory as a key aspect of the device, with support for up to 18GB of extended RAM. This is aimed at improving multitasking performance, enabling smoother app switching and handling of heavier workloads within its segment.
Design And Durability
On the design front, the smartphone features an aerospace-grade aluminium camera module, aiming to deliver a more premium look. Durability is another area of focus, with the device offering MIL-STD-810H certification for drop resistance of up to 1.5 meters, along with IP64-rated protection against dust and splashes.
Positioned Around Practical Upgrades
With the POP X 5G, TECNO appears to be focusing on practical, real-world improvements rather than headline specifications. Battery life, durability, and connectivity form the core of the device's positioning, reflecting a strategy aimed at users prioritising reliability and everyday performance in the budget 5G segment.
The POP X 5G doesn't try to compete on traditional specs like camera or chipset, at least based on what's been revealed so far. Instead, it leans heavily into battery, durability, and connectivity, which is a more practical approach for this price segment. If TECNO gets the pricing right, this could appeal strongly to first-time 5G users and buyers looking for a dependable daily device rather than a performance-focused one.
