Vodafone Idea (Vi) has announced a new Free International Roaming proposition for eligible postpaid, prepaid and enterprise customers in India. The new offering allows users to stay connected while travelling across 170+ countries without having to purchase a separate international roaming pack, with Vi claiming savings of up to Rs 9,000 per year depending on the plan.
Vi Free International Roaming Plan Features
Under the new proposition, eligible customers can get free international roaming for up to three trips in a year. The exact international data quota and outgoing calling minutes vary depending on the plan, with the company positioning the service as an alternative to purchasing local SIMs, travel SIMs or separate roaming packs when travelling abroad.
The service is available for individual, family and business travellers across eligible Vi plans. Customers can activate the benefit through the Vi App by selecting the applicable international Roam-Free plan. According to Vi, eligible postpaid plans start at Rs 501, while the proposition also covers annual prepaid unlimited data plans. For enterprise customers, eligible corporate plans start at Rs 451. The exact roaming benefits, including data and outgoing calling allowances, depend on the individual plan.
Vi says the move is intended to address common issues faced by international travellers, including the need to purchase local or travel SIMs, losing access to an Indian number, missing OTPs and dealing with unexpected roaming charges. The company is instead positioning the user's existing Vi number as the primary connection while travelling abroad.
Vi Free International Roaming Part of ‘Vi Pe Sab Hain VIP' Campaign
The new roaming proposition is part of Vi's "Vi Pe Sab Hain VIP" brand campaign. The company says the campaign is being extended into a customer benefit through the inclusion of international roaming in select plans rather than treating it as an additional purchase.
The launch is also accompanied by a new commercial featuring Shah Rukh Khan. In the campaign film, Khan initially believes Vi has made international roaming free only for him, before the message reveals that the benefit is available to all eligible customers. Vi's new proposition directly targets one of the most frustrating parts of international travel for Indian mobile users: staying connected without buying a separate roaming pack or changing SIMs. The inclusion of free roaming across select prepaid, postpaid and enterprise plans, combined with coverage across 170+ countries, makes this a notable shift in how Vi is packaging international connectivity.
