Samsung has unveiled its new Portable SSD P Series at Gamescom 2026, introducing the flagship P9 and versatile P7 with USB4 connectivity. The new portable SSDs are designed for users dealing with large files, ultra-high-resolution video, AI-generated content and large-scale games.
Samsung P9 Portable SSD Specifications And Features
The Samsung P9 is the more performance-focused model, offering sequential read speeds of up to 4,000MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 3,800MB/s. Samsung says this is approximately twice the sequential read and write performance of the previous-generation T9, which offered speeds of up to 2,000MB/s.
The P9 is also claimed to be the world's first 8TB USB4 portable SSD supporting speeds of up to 4,000MB/s. Samsung says the drive received a CES 2026 Innovation Award earlier this year.
With its sustained write performance, the P9 is designed for demanding professional workflows, including 12K direct recording. This allows creators to capture, store and edit large RAW image files and ultra-high-resolution video directly on the portable SSD.
Samsung P7 Specifications And Features
The Samsung P7 also features USB4 connectivity but is positioned as a more versatile option for everyday storage requirements. It is compatible with a wide range of devices, including desktops, laptops, smartphones, gaming consoles and cameras.
Samsung has also put the P7 through 2-metre drop testing, along with shock and vibration durability testing. This is intended to protect stored data when the SSD is used while travelling or in other mobile environments.
Samsung P9, P7 Storage Capacities and Price in India
The Samsung Portable SSD P Series will be available in 1TB, 2TB, 4TB and 8TB capacities, with availability beginning from the first week of September. Samsung notes that available capacities may vary by market.
The Samsung P9 is priced at Rs 32,639 for 1TB, Rs 62,399 for 2TB, Rs 1,29,599 for 4TB and Rs 2,59,199 for 8TB.
The Samsung P7 costs Rs 27,839 for 1TB, Rs 52,799 for 2TB, Rs 1,10,399 for 4TB and Rs 2,19,839 for 8TB.
Samsung's new P Series is aimed at two different groups of users. The P9 is clearly targeted at professionals who need extremely fast external storage for demanding video and creative workflows, with 4,000MB/s read speeds and capacities reaching 8TB.
The P7, meanwhile, is positioned as a more practical portable storage solution with broad device compatibility and additional durability testing. With both drives adopting USB4, Samsung is also pushing faster external storage into a wider range of use cases, although users will need compatible USB4 hardware to make the most of their advertised speeds.
