Flipkart Launches Pay Later in India With 30-Day Credit, Pay in 3 and EMI Options Across Flipkart, Myntra and Minutes

Flipkart has announced Flipkart Pay Later, a new embedded credit solution developed in partnership with PayU Finance. The service allows eligible customers to access Pay Later (up to 30 days), Pay in 3, and EMI options ranging from three to 12 months across Flipkart, Myntra and Flipkart Minutes. Integrated directly into the checkout process, the feature removes the need for a credit card or a separate financing application, making credit more accessible within Flipkart's shopping ecosystem.

Flexible Payment Options for Everyday and Big-Ticket Purchases

Unlike traditional financing services that mainly target expensive products, Flipkart is positioning Pay Later as a payment option for both daily essentials and premium purchases.

Customers can use the 30-day repayment option for groceries, fashion, beauty products, home essentials and orders placed through Flipkart Minutes. Meanwhile, smartphones, laptops, electronics, home appliances and furniture can be purchased using Pay in 3 or EMIs of up to 12 months, allowing users to choose repayment plans based on the value of their purchase.

The move reflects the growing demand for flexible payment solutions as more consumers prefer spreading payments over time instead of paying the full amount upfront.

A key highlight of Flipkart Pay Later is its use of commerce intelligence for credit assessment.

Instead of relying only on traditional credit scores, Flipkart says the platform analyses shopping behaviour, transaction history and purchase patterns alongside PayU Finance's lending capabilities to make faster and more informed lending decisions. According to the company, this approach also supports responsible lending by assessing customer eligibility using multiple data points.

Partnership With PayU Finance

For the initial rollout, PayU Finance will operate as the licensed NBFC lender, while Flipkart Finance manages the customer relationship and commerce-driven credit experience.

Flipkart also confirmed that it plans to expand the programme by partnering with additional financial institutions in the future, allowing the service to reach a wider customer base while remaining compliant with India's lending regulations.

The introduction of Flipkart Pay Later comes as embedded finance continues to gain momentum in India's e-commerce market.

With smartphone prices increasing, premium appliances becoming more affordable through financing, and online shopping expanding into Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, repayment flexibility is becoming as important as discounts and cashback offers. Since credit card penetration in India remains relatively low, integrated credit solutions like Flipkart Pay Later could make EMI-based shopping accessible to a much larger audience.

Flipkart Pay Later is more than just another checkout payment option. It signals the company's broader ambition to build a stronger fintech ecosystem around its e-commerce business. By leveraging years of shopping data to offer contextual credit, Flipkart is following the global trend of turning online marketplaces into financial platforms. If the company can balance quick approvals with responsible lending, Pay Later could become a key differentiator in India's increasingly competitive e-commerce landscape.
