Samsung has launched the Galaxy Card, its first credit card, as the company looks to bring payments, device purchases and rewards closer to the Samsung Wallet ecosystem.
Issued by Barclays US Consumer Bank on the Visa network, the Galaxy Card will be available to customers in the US. General applications open on July 22, while eligible early-access customers can apply earlier.
The card will be offered in both virtual and physical formats. The premium metal version features a black Samsung logo.
Samsung Purchases Get the Highest Rewards
Galaxy Card users will earn 5% cash rewards on eligible purchases made directly from Samsung. The company is also offering 5% cash rewards to customers who preorder its next Galaxy device using the card.
Purchases made through Samsung Wallet will earn 3% cash rewards, while spending on streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+ and Spotify will qualify for 2%. All other eligible purchases will earn 1% cash rewards.
New cardholders can also receive $200 in bonus cash rewards after spending $2,000 within the first 90 days of opening the account.
Samsung is additionally offering 20% off its VIP Advantage membership, along with 5% cash rewards when customers purchase or renew the membership. There is currently no word on if the company is working for a similar tie up in India.
Galaxy Card Expands Samsung Wallet's Role
The Galaxy Card can be stored inside Samsung Wallet alongside compatible payment cards, IDs, passes and digital keys. Samsung says transactions will also be supported by its Knox security platform.
The launch indicates Samsung's broader push to make Wallet a more central part of the Galaxy ecosystem, extending it beyond payment storage to include financial products and device-linked rewards.
