Hasselblad x OPPO: What the Extended Partnership Means for Smartphone Cameras

At a recent event in Gothenburg, Sweden, OPPO announced it has extended its strategic partnership with legendary camera maker Hasselblad. The two companies are now co-developing a next-generation mobile imaging system, promising a leap in image quality, color science, and creative controls for upcoming OPPO Find Series flagships.

The collaboration, which began four years ago, has already introduced users to the Hasselblad Natural Color Solution, portrait tuning based on iconic Hasselblad lenses, and the nostalgic XPAN mode. Now, with OPPO's growing ambitions in mobile imaging, the renewed partnership signals an even deeper integration.

"The partnership with Hasselblad is built on a shared passion for innovation," said Pete Lau, Chief Product Officer at OPPO. "With the extension of our collaboration, we will push the boundaries of mobile imaging even further."

A Growing Trend Among Flagship Brands

OPPO isn't alone in this strategy. Xiaomi's premium smartphones have been leveraging Leica's imaging expertise since 2022, while vivo's partnership with Zeiss has helped shape the X series into a mobile photography powerhouse. These collaborations are not just branding exercises — they bring co-engineered camera stacks, colour tuning, and pro-grade modes that appeal to creators and enthusiasts alike.

In OPPO's case, the results have been visible across devices like the Find X6 Pro and the Find X8 Ultra, which introduced advanced features such as True Chroma Cameras, AI Bokeh Engine, and Master Mode with ultra-clear JPEG Max and 16-bit RAW Max capture.

Next Steps in the Camera Collaboration

While OPPO hasn't shared specifics of the new imaging system yet, the brand is positioning it as a defining leap in mobile photography. Based on its history with Hasselblad, users can expect a continued focus on cinematic colour accuracy, enhanced manual controls, and potentially even new hardware innovations that integrate deeper with Hasselblad's imaging science. Given how much the Find Series has evolved with each iteration, the next flagship could aim to close the gap even further between mobile and mirrorless photography.

So far, however, this level of imaging brilliance has remained exclusive to the top-tier models across brands. While Xiaomi, vivo, and OPPO continue to showcase their best co-engineered camera systems in premium flagships, only vivo has experimented with bringing Zeiss-backed features into its more accessible V series. It remains to be seen whether OPPO will follow suit and extend its Hasselblad collaboration into the mid-range segment — a move that could democratise pro-grade mobile photography for a wider audience.
