OPPO F29 Pro Review: The Gym Bro of Smartphones

OPPO has a solid reputation for making tough, performance-driven phones, and with the new F29 series, they’ve clearly decided to raise the bar—again. I’ve had the OPPO F29 Pro glued to my hand for over a month now, and I’m still not over how absurdly slim it is. And yet, somehow, OPPO managed to squeeze in a 6,000mAh battery.

What Is Good?

  • Durable design, very slim
  • Solid battery life
  • Everyday usage is smooth
  • Multimedia experience is amazing
  • Primary camera clicks decent pictures

What Is Bad?

  • No ultra-wide camera
  • Bloatware apps

On the performance side, it runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Energy chipset and comes with a dual-camera setup on the back to cover your everyday photography needs. So, is this the indestructible superhero phone we’ve all been waiting for? And more importantly, does it bring more than just muscle to the table? Let’s find out in my detailed review.

Design and Display

The Marble White variant of the OPPO F29 Pro genuinely reminds me of the marble tiles in my living room. The texture on the back panel has that same polished, elegant feel, which adds a nice touch of sophistication. For folks like me who gravitate towards minimal, timeless colours like black and white, OPPO clearly had us in mind.

OPPO F29 Pro Design

The phone is ridiculously slim—like, how did they fit a 6,000mAh battery in here? The side frames have a soft curve that makes the phone super comfortable to hold.

Design Specifications
Weight 180 grams
Thickness 7.6mm
Colours Marble White and Granite Black
IP Rating IP69, IP68 and IP66 dust and water resistant
Port and Button Placements Bottom: Primary microphone, USB port, Speaker grille, SIM tray
Top: Secondary microphone and secondary speakers
Right Side: Volume buttons and power button

As for durability, OPPO didn’t hold back. This phone comes with IP69, IP68, and IP66 ratings, which basically means it can survive more than your average splash or dust storm. In fact, it was doused with tea, water, and more during our testing—and lived to tell the tale.

When it comes to the display, this phone doesn’t pick a side, neither fully flat nor curved. Instead, it goes for a subtle curve that feels like it’s just gliding into the frame. The bezels are pleasantly slim all around, but the chin shows up a little extra.

Display Specifications
Size 6.7-inch
Type AMOLED display
Resolution 1080 x 2412 pixels
Refresh Rate 120Hz
Peak Brightness Claimed: 1200 nits Tested: 872 nits
Minimum Brightness 07 nits

The display quality on this phone was quite enjoyable. Whether I was scrolling through apps or watching videos, the 120Hz refresh rate kept everything feeling smooth and responsive. I didn’t notice any lags or stutters during daily use.

I spent some time watching high-resolution content on YouTube and an episode of When Life Gives You Tangerines on Netflix, and the colour reproduction was balanced and pleasant, without going overboard with the saturation levels. Combined with the stereo speakers, which delivered clear and loud audio without distortion, the overall viewing experience was pretty solid.

That said, the display can feel a bit too bright indoors at night when the brightness is turned all the way up. On the other hand, visibility outdoors under direct sunlight isn’t its strong suit. While sitting outside in the garden, I had to adjust the angle to avoid glare and make sure I could actually see the screen.

Hardware and Software

Under the hood, the OPPO F29 Pro runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Energy SoC. In our AnTuTu benchmark test, it clocked in at 706,135 points. But phones like the OnePlus Nord 4 and POCO X7 Pro pulled ahead with stronger scores in the same test. You can take a peek at our comparison chart below to see where the F29 Pro stands in the pack.

In real-world use, though, it held just fine. I scrolled through Instagram, had those never-ending catch-up calls with my parents, and casually tested the camera in both sunny and dim corners of my day. Through it all, the phone stayed cool, and felt smooth and responsive throughout.

Hardware Specifications
Processor MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Energy SoC
RAM Up to 12GB
Storage Up to 256GB
Storage Test 706135
CPU Throttling Test 71 per cent of its max performance
Software Version ColorOS 15, based on Android 15
Connectivity Details Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth v5.4

After running a round of benchmarks—AnTuTu, CPU Throttling, and Geekbench 6—the OPPO F29 Pro started to feel noticeably hot, especially around the back. This was despite the room being cool with the AC on, so clearly, thermal management is one area that could use a bit of work.

To test gaming performance, I played a 30-minute session of BGMI. The phone warmed up slightly, particularly near the camera module, but nothing too alarming. It maxed out at 30fps, which is acceptable for casual play. The F29 Pro is not primarily a performance-focussed device, so if that’s your priority, you’ll find solace in the OnePlus Nord 4 or POCO X7 Pro.

On the software side, the F29 Pro runs ColorOS 15, based on Android 15, right out of the box. It’s the familiar OPPO interface, now enhanced with some AI-powered features like AI Summary, AI Speak, and AI Studio. These tools are useful in day-to-day scenarios, though I wouldn’t call them essential. Still, it’s nice having them there when you need a little extra help.

OPPO F29 Pro Software

What didn’t sit well with me was the number of pre-installed apps. There’s quite a bit of bloatware, which makes the interface feel more cluttered than necessary.

Cameras

On the back, you get a dual-camera setup, but one of them is a 2-megapixel monochrome sensor. In 2025, that’s a bit underwhelming. An ultra-wide camera would’ve been far more practical.

OPPO F29 Pro Camera Module

The primary camera handles indoor shots fairly well. That said, it struggles a bit with vibrant colours—shades like neon pink, green, and orange tend to look a little off, almost like the camera got the saturation settings confused.

Outdoors, however, it’s a different story. In good lighting, the camera captures both detail and colour with much better accuracy. It’s clear that adequate lighting brings out the best in this setup.

Camera Specifications
Primary Camera 50-megapixel, wide-angle camera with OIS,
f/1.8 aperture
Secondary Camera 2-megapixel monochrome, f/2.4 aperture
Selfie Camera 16-megapixel, f/2.4 aperture
Video Recording Capabilities Up to 4K at 30fps

Portrait shots on this phone are mostly on point—the subject looks sharp, skin tones are well-handled, and the background blur adds a nice touch. But every now and then, the edge detection seems to have an off day. I noticed the camera occasionally trims parts of the subject’s t-shirt. So, this could definitely use a little fine-tuning.

As for selfies, the camera does a good job overall. However, it smooths out pores and blemishes so much that the result can look a bit too polished.

Low-light performance is surprisingly solid. The photos turn out bright, and elements like foliage and lamp shades hold up well in terms of detail. The edges, though, can be a little soft.

All things considered, the F29 Pro’s camera setup is pretty reliable. It delivers vibrant, detailed shots more often than not, with only a few quirks here and there.

Battery and Charging

This phone carries a hefty 6,000mAh battery—just 500mAh shy of what the younger OPPO F29 offers.

OPPO F29 Pro Battery

As for charging, it comes bundled with an 80W SUPERVOOC charger. I plugged it in from zero, and it reached 100% in a little over 1 hour and 22 minutes.

Battery Specifications
Battery 6,000mAh
Charging Adapter 80W SUPERVOOC, charger in-the-box
Charging Time 1 hour and 22 minutes
PCMark Battery Test 16 hours and 28 minutes

On the endurance front, this phone had no problem keeping up with me for an entire day. On slower days, it even carried over to the next morning.

In the PCMark battery test, it clocked 16 hours and 28 minutes. You can check out the graph below to see how it stacks up against the competition.

Verdict

So, should you spend Rs 27,999 on the OPPO F29 Pro in 2025? In short—yes, especially if you’re the kind of person who’s rough on their gadgets. We ran this phone through some real-world chaos: dropped it from 15 steps up a staircase and ‘accidentally’ poured hot tea, water, and a few other liquids on it. To our surprise, it came out looking completely unbothered.

If you’re someone who travels often, works outdoors like Swiggy or Zomato riders, or just tends to drop their phone a lot, the F29 Pro might just be the sturdy companion.

And it doesn’t just rely on brute strength. It’s also stylish, with a slim profile that feels great in hand and a design that doesn’t scream “rugged.” Day-to-day performance is smooth, and it packs a massive 6,000mAh battery—so you won’t be running for the charger halfway through the day.

Of course, it’s not without its flaws. The missing ultra-wide camera might sting many, and the occasional camera hiccup or lack of gaming muscle might leave power users wanting more.

But if you’re after a dependable daily driver with great battery life, this is a strong contender. That said, it also faces tough competition from the OnePlus Nord 4, POCO F6, or Realme GT 6T. All of which cater to different audience and usecases.
