Poco M6 Plus First Impressions

The Poco M series has always been geared towards people actively searching for performance-centric phones on a budget. Continuing on this vision of the Poco M series, Poco has launched the all-new Poco M6 Plus.

It rocks a gorgeous design and feels great in hand. Powered by Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 AE, its performance looks promising, and it holds the capability to capture special moments beautifully with its dual camera setup. It joins a slew of smartphones in its current price range and offers 5G capabilities too. While the review is still in its development stage, here are my first impressions of the Poco M6 Plus.

Poco M6 Plus First Impressions: Design and Display

You can get the Poco M6 Plus in three colours: Misty Lavender, Ice Silver, and Graphite Black. The colour of the phone I got is misty lavender. Truth be told, the phone looks absolutely stunning in this colour. Additionally, the glass back lends the phone a premium look. The M6 Plus comes with a plastic frame. It has a great in-hand feel, isn’t bulky, and is easy to carry around.

The phone sports a dual-camera setup with a prominent ring-shaped flashlight. The ring-shaped flashlight also serves as a notification LED, alerting you about important messages and calls. The phone also has an IP53 rating, so you can use it worry-free when it is drizzling outside. Another trick hidden up its sleeve is the ‘wet finger detection’ feature, so the display doesn’t register any interaction from a water droplet. This will be quite useful, especially with the rainy season coming in.

Let’s talk about the display. It sports a 6.7-inch FHD+ LCD display with a 120 Hz refresh rate. In the limited time that I have spent with the phone, the display has fared well. It was a joy watching content on this display because the colours were punchy and the video was crisp.

However, we’ve been unable to test performance under harsh sunlight, as the last few days have been rather cloudy in Delhi.

Poco M6 Plus First Impressions: Hardware and Software

The phone is armed with the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 AE (Accelerated Edition). It has only one storage option: 128GB. There are two RAM variants: 6GB and 8GB. It also supports up to 8 GB of virtual RAM.

As of now, I haven’t pushed the phone to its limits, but the performance has been decent with minimal tasks thrown at it. We will talk more about it in our detailed review. Surprisingly, the company is claiming this phone has a 36-month lag-free experience.

The Poco M6 Plus is powered by a 5030mAh battery. As per our initial testing, it can last more than a whole day for most users with moderate usage. It takes about an hour and 12 minutes to fully charge with the 33W charger in the box.

The phone runs on HyperOS, based on Android 14. Poco also offers two years of Android updates and four years of security updates.

Poco M6 Plus: First Impressions: Camera

On the rear of the phone, you get a 108-megapixel camera. It is a Samsung ISOCELL HM6 sensor, which supports up to 3x digital zoom. It is accompanied by a 2-megapixel macro camera. The main camera’s performance is impressive considering the price bracket the phone is in.

The images have a good dynamic range and the colours look impressive. Even the 13-megapixel selfie camera excels at clicking some great photos for social media. However, I will share a deeper analysis of the camera output in my full review.

Poco M6 Plus: First Impressions: Final Thoughts

In the budget segment, the Poco M6 Plus offers a premium design while packing a massive 5030mAh battery, making it a unique proposition. It also performs well in everyday tasks such as calling, messaging, and regular multimedia consumption. For the starting price of Rs 11,999, the phone appears to be a great option. But to see how it stacks up against its fierce competitors, stay tuned for my final review.
