Apple MacBook Pro With Touchscreen PROLED XDR Display Launched in India; Prices Start at Rs 3,49,900

Apple has unveiled its 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models in India, featuring tandem OLED PROLED XDR touchscreens, M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, up to 128GB RAM, 16TB storage and up to 24 hours of battery life, with prices starting at Rs 3,49,900.

Apple has unveiled its new MacBook Pro lineup featuring the PROLED XDR display, bringing tandem OLED technology and touchscreen support to the Mac for the first time. Available in 14-inch and 16-inch models, the new laptops are powered by Apple's M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, with upgrades spanning display brightness, on-device AI performance, connectivity and storage.

Apple MacBook Pro PROLED XDR Display Specifications

The new PROLED XDR display is the headline addition to Apple's professional laptop lineup. It uses tandem OLED technology, combining two self-illuminating pixel layers with display-engine algorithms designed to improve brightness uniformity, contrast and image consistency.

Apple claims peak HDR and SDR brightness of up to 2,000 nits and a contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1. The display supports ProMotion with adaptive refresh rates ranging from 10Hz to 120Hz, balancing smooth visuals with power efficiency.

For professional colour workflows, the panel supports both P3 and Adobe RGB colour spaces, with more than 80% Rec. 2020 coverage. Apple has also included factory calibration and reference modes for photography, print, design and cinematic workflows. DICOM reference modes are available for medical image review in research and educational settings. A nano-texture glass option is available for users who need to reduce reflections and glare in bright environments.

For the first time, Apple has introduced touchscreen support on the MacBook Pro. Users can scroll through webpages, pinch to zoom, drag and drop content, and interact directly with supported creative applications.

The company says the touch sensor is integrated into the display panel to reduce latency. Apple has also redesigned the hinge to provide greater stability during touchscreen interactions.

Touch input is designed to complement the keyboard and trackpad rather than replace them. Creative professionals can use the screen as a drawing surface, musicians can play software instruments directly on the display, and developers can test touch interactions for iOS and iPadOS applications.

Apple says several third-party applications will support touchscreen interactions, including Adobe Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve, Blender, Cinema 4D, ZBrush, Shapr3D and Algoriddim djay Pro. Productivity applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Notion and Canva are also listed.

Apple has brought the Dynamic Island interface to the MacBook Pro, positioning it as a central location for Spotlight search, Live Activities and Siri AI.

Users can search their Mac, check real-time updates, control music, answer calls and interact with supported activities from the interface. Siri AI is also integrated into Spotlight and system-wide context menus, with Apple Intelligence features available across supported applications.

The laptops run macOS 27, which adds features such as AI-powered photo editing, automatic tab organisation in Safari and natural-language automation creation through Shortcuts. Apple says Siri AI can use personal context to help users find information across messages, emails and photos while maintaining privacy protections.

The new MacBook Pro is available with Apple's M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, which the company describes as its most powerful processors for a professional laptop.

The chips feature enhanced CPU and GPU performance, faster unified memory and Neural Accelerators integrated into each GPU core. Apple says they are designed to handle demanding workloads such as compiling code, editing multiple streams of 8K ProRes video, running local large language models and rendering complex 3D scenes.

The M5 Max configuration is aimed at users working with particularly intensive tasks, including visual effects, 3D animation and AI development. Apple says it can run large language models with hundreds of billions of parameters entirely on-device, depending on the model and workload.

The laptops support up to 128GB of unified memory and configurable storage of up to 16TB. Apple has not specified the standard memory and storage configurations for every variant in the supplied announcement.

Apple says the new MacBook Pro is thinner and lighter than its predecessors. The 14-inch model weighs around 3 pounds, while the 16-inch version weighs around 4 pounds. Despite the reduced weight, Apple says a redesigned thermal architecture allows the laptops to sustain performance during demanding workloads. The company rates battery life at up to 24 hours, although actual endurance will depend on the configuration and usage.

The updated six-speaker audio system features a new woofer design that Apple says delivers 50% deeper bass, alongside updated tweeters for improved clarity. Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos is supported, and the laptops include studio-quality microphones and a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera.

The new MacBook Pro includes three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe charging and a headphone jack. Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, supported by Apple's N1 wireless chip.

External display support varies by configuration. Apple says the M5 Pro models can connect up to three external displays, while M5 Max models support up to four. The laptops also support fast charging, with Apple claiming up to 50% battery in 30 minutes using a compatible power adapter.

Apple MacBook Pro PROLED XDR Price in India and Availability

The new MacBook Pro is a substantial change to Apple's professional laptop formula, combining tandem OLED technology with touchscreen support and a redesigned interface around the Dynamic Island. The wider colour gamut and high contrast could benefit colour-critical workflows, while M5 Pro and M5 Max target demanding creative and AI workloads. However, starting at Rs 3,49,900, the new lineup remains firmly in the premium segment. Its appeal will depend on how much professionals benefit from the touchscreen, display improvements and additional computing capabilities over existing MacBook Pro models.
