Sony ECM-AX10 Spatial Audio Microphone Launches in India at Rs 17,990: Details Here

Sony India has launched the ECM-AX10, a compact USB-C microphone designed to bring spatial audio recording capabilities to smartphone video creators. The company claims it is the world's first microphone to receive Eclipsa Audio certification, with support for three recording modes and a smartphone-based workflow for recording, editing and exporting immersive audio content.

Sony ECM-AX10 Features and Specifications

The Sony ECM-AX10 features four built-in omnidirectional microphone capsules that capture sound from multiple directions. Combined with Sony's spatial audio processing, the microphone is designed to preserve the atmosphere, direction and distance of sounds in a scene, making it suitable for travel videos, street performances, sports footage and behind-the-scenes content.

The microphone connects directly to compatible smartphones through USB-C and weighs approximately 24 grams. Its compact design is intended for creators who want to record higher-quality audio without carrying a separate recorder or setting up additional equipment. The ECM-AX10 supports Ambisonics, binaural and stereo recording modes. Ambisonics is designed for spatial audio production and works with Sony's Spatial Audio Video Tool app to support publishing immersive content in Eclipsa Audio on YouTube.

Binaural recording uses Sony's proprietary spatial audio technology, also used in 360 Reality Audio, to create a three-dimensional listening experience optimised for headphones. Stereo mode provides a conventional audio format suited to everyday videos, social media content and playback through headphones or speakers. The microphone can also work with general recording and video applications, alongside Sony's dedicated apps.

Sony's Spatial Audio Video Tool app is designed to provide a more direct workflow for mobile creators. Users can record videos, review footage, make basic edits and export finished content with spatial audio from their smartphones. The ECM-AX10's Eclipsa Audio certification also allows its captured audio to be integrated into compatible immersive sound productions. Eclipsa Audio is an open spatial audio technology intended to deliver a more immersive listening experience across supported digital content platforms, televisions and soundbars.

Sony says it worked with its post-production subsidiary, Sony PCL, to help develop the microphone's spatial audio experience.

Sony ECM-AX10 Price in India and Availability

The Sony ECM-AX10 is priced at Rs 17,990 in India. The microphone is available in Black through e-commerce platforms, select Sony Centres and pro audio stores.

The Sony ECM-AX10 is aimed at smartphone creators who want to go beyond conventional stereo audio without carrying a larger recording setup. Its four-microphone array, three recording modes and mobile editing workflow could make spatial audio production more accessible to vloggers and mobile filmmakers. At Rs 17,990, however, its value will depend on whether creators regularly produce content for platforms and devices that support immersive audio formats.
