Is ₹50,000 Too Much for a Portable Party Speaker? Sonos Thinks Not

Sonos has officially launched the Move 2 in India at ₹49,999, positioning it as a premium portable party speaker that blends performance, design, and sustainability. With stereo sound, a 24-hour battery, and both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, the Move 2 aims to be more than just another outdoor audio companion—it’s Sonos’ attempt to redefine what a party speaker can sound like.

At the heart of the Move 2 is stereo playback, something missing from the original Move. With dual tweeters and a custom-tuned woofer, Sonos claims it can deliver wide stereo imaging and deep, dynamic bass—enough to fill your balcony or terrace with high-quality sound. Unlike many party speakers that prioritise punchy bass and raw volume, Sonos is once again betting on clarity and balance, appealing to listeners who want to enjoy the music, not just feel it.

For larger gatherings, you can pair two Move 2 units or integrate them into a wider Sonos multi-room system. The Bluetooth + Wi-Fi combo means you can stream music from your phone on the go or switch to Wi-Fi for higher-quality playback and tighter ecosystem control at home.

Another thing we would like to highlight here is that while Bluetooth works well for quick connections, Wi-Fi offers noticeably higher bandwidth and stability. This means you can stream lossless audio with fewer dropouts, control multiple speakers across rooms, and enjoy better sync when using voice assistants or grouping with other Sonos products.

Switching from the sound to the design, Sonos Move 2 has an IP56-rated body, which means it should be able to handle dust, drops, splashes, and the occasional spilled drink. The speaker comes in Olive, Black, and White, designed to blend with both indoor furniture and outdoor patios. The company claims that battery for these party speakers will last for 24 hours after a single charge. Additionally, it features a USB-C port, allowing the Move 2 to serve as a power bank if needed, which will come in handy for long road trips.

Sonos also claims to have made notable improvements from a sustainability perspective. The Move 2 uses recycled plastics, a replaceable battery, and packaging that is curbside recyclable with zero virgin plastic. These are important moves, especially for a product expected to last through years of wear and travel.

The Value Question

That ₹49,999 price tag inevitably invites comparisons. There are plenty of rugged, loud party speakers in the market for a third of the price. However, very few offer the combination of Wi-Fi streaming, seamless app control, smart voice features, stereo separation, and ecosystem compatibility that Sonos does.

To be clear, this is not a speaker for everyone. But it isn’t trying to be. The Move 2 is for users who already value great sound and have likely experienced the Sonos difference—whether it’s the app experience, the tuning quality, or the brand’s minimalist design ethos. Also, we’ve used Sonos products before, including the Sonos Arc Ultra and Sub Gen 4 (Review), and found the Sonos app to be clean, stable, and easy to use. If the Move 2 offers a similar experience, navigating between sources, creating groups, or managing playback across rooms should be just as effortless.

We’ll reserve final judgment until we test it ourselves, but on paper, the Move 2 makes a compelling case for being the party speaker for people who care about how their music actually sounds.
