Intel unveils Core Ultra 200S Plus desktop processors with additional cores, faster interconnect and DDR5-7200 support

Intel has introduced a new set of enthusiast desktop CPUs under the Core Ultra 200S Plus branding. The line-up currently includes the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus and Core Ultra 5 250K Plus, which build on the previously released Core Ultra Series 2 processors while adding higher core counts, faster internal communication speeds, and updated memory support.

The Plus models expand the architecture of the earlier Core Ultra 200S chips by adding more efficiency cores and increasing the die-to-die interconnect frequency by as much as 900 MHz. Intel says these changes are intended to improve system latency and help boost both gaming performance and heavily threaded workloads.

New core configurations and memory improvements

The Core Ultra 7 270K Plus now comes with 24 cores in total (8 performance cores and 16 efficiency cores), while the Core Ultra 5 250K Plus offers 18 cores (6 performance cores and 12 efficiency cores). Intel says the additional cores help increase parallel processing capability compared with the previous Core Ultra 7 265K/KF and Core Ultra 5 245K/KF processors.

Memory support has also been updated. The new processors support DDR5-7200 MT/s RAM, up from the DDR5-6400 specification supported by earlier Core Ultra 200S desktop CPUs. Intel also notes compatibility with the Core Ultra 200S Boost BIOS profile, which allows enthusiasts to run memory speeds of up to 8,000 MT/s under supported configurations.

Another upcoming capability is support for 4-rank CUDIMM modules, a developing memory format that can deliver significantly larger capacities. Intel indicates that compatible modules may provide up to 128 GB per DIMM on select motherboards using the company's 800-series chipset platform.

Software optimisation feature and platform support

Alongside the hardware updates, Intel is introducing a new Binary Optimisation Tool. According to the company, the technology can optimise instruction execution and improve application performance even when the software was originally tuned for a different x86 processor or an earlier architecture.

Intel states that the Core Ultra 200S Plus processors can deliver up to 15 percent higher average gaming performance compared with existing Core Ultra Series 2 desktop CPUs, along with significantly higher multithreaded performance in certain benchmarks, though results will vary depending on system configuration and workloads.

The processors remain compatible with existing Intel 800-series motherboards, allowing users of current platforms to upgrade without changing their chipset. Intel also expects additional 800-series motherboard models with expanded features to appear during 2026.

Release date and pricing

Intel says the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus and Core Ultra 5 250K Plus will be available starting 26 March 2026 through retail partners and system integrators. Suggested pricing begins at $299 (around ₹27,500) for the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus and $199 (around ₹18,300) for the Core Ultra 5 250K Plus, although final prices may vary depending on the region, taxes and retailer.
