Huawei Mate 40

If you’re on the lookout for the best possible smartphone money can buy, there are three brands that you will definitely consider — Apple, Samsung, and Huawei. Of course, you can’t convince an Apple fan to buy an Android phone and vice versa, so if you were looking for an Android phone that offered you top notch performance, stunning camera results, and beautiful displays, both Samsung and Huawei deliver the goods. But that was until last year, when the US-China trade war played havoc with Huawei’s business plans and security scandals led to the Chinese electronics giant getting locked out of accessing the Google Play Store and in the process, all GMS (Google Mobile Services). This definitely threw a spanner in the works for Huawei as a lot of smartphone buyers will have second thoughts about not getting access to their favorite apps. But for those who swear by Huawei, the company has lined up one of its two major flagship launches for the year — the Huawei Mate 40 is here. The Mate 40 sports a 6.6-inch AMOLED display that has a resolution of 1176 x 2400 pixels. Huawei continues the tradition of equipping its own flagship grade chipset in the Mate series by installing a Kirin 990 SoC inside the Mate 40. The device packs 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage, which can be doubled if you use the memory card slot. On the back, you get a stellar 48MP + 40MP + 8MP + 5MP quad sensor setup while on the front, the phone sports a 32MP + 2MP dual camera. Battery features are impressive as expected with the fuel cell not only offering a capacity of 4700mAh but also supporting 40W fast charging. The popular Huawei mobile phone include the Huawei Mate 40 RS Porsche Edition, Huawei Mate 40E, and Huawei Mate 40 Pro.

Huawei Mate 40 Details

Gorilla Glass Protection, 6.6 inch OLED Display
Huawei’s flagship products have always carried the most stunning and vibrant OLED displays and that immediately attracts a lot of attention from potential customers. That is the case with the Mate 40 as well, which packs a 6.6-inch AMOLED display that offers a resolution of 1176 x 2400 pixels with a pixel density of 409 ppi. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6 and has a notch at the top for the front camera. The display features a built-in fingerprint scanner.
Powerful Kirin 990 Chipset, Rear Quad Camera
The camera setup is the jewel in the crown for Huawei phones and the quad camera on the back of the Mate 40 delivers the goods as well. You have a 48MP primary sensor, a 40MP telephoto snapper, an 8MP ultrawide camera, and a 5MP macro lens for close up shots. The rear camera can also record 4K video at 30 fps. This time around you have a dual camera on the front too, consisting of a 32MP primary and a 2MP deputy for portrait shots. Huawei has an excellent chipset manufacturing unit and that’s where the Kirin 990 comes from, right into the Mate 40. The chipset has a Mali-G76 MP16 GPU to take over graphics processing. This is supplemented by the 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage space. The phone runs Android 10 under the EMUI skin but note that you do not get official access to the Play Store. If you still want to access your favorite apps, there are plenty of YouTube videos telling you how to do it but note that this will void your warranty.
4700mAh Battery, 40W Fast Charging, Connectivity Options
Huawei has been upping its battery game for a few years now and that has its competitors on edge because it is definitely one of the highlights of owning a Huawei device. So the Mate 40 packs a massive 4700mAh cell inside and also supports 40W fast charging speeds as well as wireless charging, so battery issues are a thing of the past. Connectivity wise, you get dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, and A-GPS. The phone features a USB 3.1 Type C port but there is no 3.5mm headphone jack.
