Since the Vivo Y81i is an entry-level smartphone, it comes with a plastic back. However, it features a large, 6.22-inch IPS LCD screen with HD+ resolution (1520×720 pixels) 19:9 aspect ratio and a notch at the top. Thanks to the notched screen and minimal bezels, the screen-to-body ratio of the phone is 83%, offering users the maximum possible screen real estate.

The Vivo Y81i runs Android 8.1 Oreo-based FunTouch OS 4.0 software. The phone is powered by the MediaTek Helio A22 processor, which is made manufactured using the power-efficient 12nm process. The Helio A22 chipset uses four Cortex-A53 CPU cores clocked at 2GHz and PowerVR GE8300 series GPU for fast and efficient performance for most day-to-day tasks. There is 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Storage space can be further expanded using up to 256GB microSD cards.

Although most phones released in 2018 feature dual-camera setups, the Vivo Y81i is still using a single camera setup at the rear. It has a 13MP camera sensor at the rear with f/2.2 aperture, phase-detection autofocus (PDAF) mechanism, and Full HD (1080p) video recording at 30 frames per second. There are HDR and Panorama modes in the camera, which should help in capturing scenes with both bright and dark elements and wide areas to capture, respectively. The 5MP front-facing camera on the Vivo Y81i has f/2.2 aperture but lacks any autofocus technique. However, that shouldn’t be an issue for most scenarios.

The Vivo Y81i might not seem like a very future-proof phone, but it comes with one feature that’s only found in most higher mid-range and high-end phones: Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connectivity. Other connectivity features include GPS/A-GPS, 4G LTE (with VoLTE and older GSM connectivity standards), Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, FM Radio and a microUSB 2.0 port (with support for USB OTG). There’s a 3260mAh battery inside the Vivo Y81i, which lasts a day of light usage.
