Apple AirPods 5 Launched With Open-Ear ANC, Live Translation and Siri AI

The new AirPods bring improved sound, stronger durability and hands-free AI features.

Apple has launched the AirPods 5, bringing Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) to its more affordable open-ear AirPods lineup. The new earbuds feature a redesigned acoustic architecture, improved Adaptive EQ, Siri AI integration and Live Translation.

AirPods 5 Specifications And Features

The biggest upgrade is the new ANC system. Apple says the AirPods 5 can remove up to 50% more external noise compared with AirPods 4 with ANC, thanks to a new multiport acoustic architecture and improved computational audio algorithms.

The earbuds also feature an improved Transparency mode that is designed to make voices and surrounding sounds feel more natural. Adaptive Audio can automatically blend ANC and Transparency mode depending on the surroundings, while Conversation Awareness lowers media volume when the user starts speaking.

Apple has redesigned the acoustic system with a multiport acoustic architecture and next-generation Adaptive EQ. The company says this delivers richer and more detailed sound across a wider range of ear shapes. AirPods 5 also support Personalised Spatial Audio, providing a more immersive listening experience with compatible content.

AirPods 5 also bring new hands-free capabilities when paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone. The new Siri AI can use personal context from messages, emails and photos, while also understanding onscreen information and taking actions across supported apps.

Users can also interact with Siri through head gestures, including nodding to confirm or shaking their head to decline. Another major addition is Live Translation, powered by Apple Intelligence. Users can initiate translation by pressing both AirPods stems, using Siri, or through the Action button on a compatible iPhone. The translated conversation can then be heard through the AirPods.

The higher-end version adds a Force Sensor with swipe-based volume control, marking the first time Apple has brought this functionality to its open-ear AirPods. Battery life is also improved, with up to five hours of playback with ANC enabled on a single charge. The charging case extends total ANC listening time to up to 22 hours. The wireless charging case supports Apple Watch chargers, Qi-compatible chargers and USB-C.

AirPods 5 Price and Availability

The AirPods 5 are priced at ₹14,900, while the AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case cost ₹17,900. Both models include Active Noise Cancellation and are available from September 18. The standard AirPods 5 has an EMI option starting at ₹2,317 per month, while the Wireless Charging Case variant starts at ₹2,817 per month, with instant cashback and No Cost EMI offers.

The AirPods 5 look like a significant upgrade for Apple's open-ear lineup, particularly with ANC, Live Translation and Siri AI coming to a more affordable price point.

The standard model should appeal to users who want ANC without moving to an in-ear design, while the Wireless Charging Case variant adds better battery life and convenient stem-based volume control.
