OPPO is getting really serious about its cameras in India. It’s launching a brand-new, India-only project called “LUMO Lab.” We’re hearing about this just as it’s getting ready to drop its new flagship Find X9 phones on November 18.
This whole lab thing isn’t just a marketing gimmick; it’s a sign that OPPO really wants to build cameras that get Indian culture, colours, and skin tones right, right from the start.
A New Chapter in OPPO’s Imaging Strategy
The new Find X9 phones are packed with some wild hardware. While Samsung is all about AI processing and Apple is obsessed with “natural” colours, OPPO is trying to do all three.
But this LUMO Lab is the really interesting part. It’s teaming up with some popular Indian photographers (like Joseph Radhik, Ashik Aseem, and Zaid Salman) to finally nail things like authentic Indian skin tones and the vibrant colours you see at festivals. Instead of making a “one-size-fits-all” camera and tweaking it for India later, OPPO is building this one with Indian creators from day one.
What Users Can Expect
Okay, the tech here sounds insane. The star of the show is a 200MP Hasselblad telephoto camera. It’s promising 13.2x lossless zoom and a 120x hybrid zoom. OPPO says it’s using some new optical alignment tech to make that long-range zoom actually sharp and usable, not just a blurry mess like on some other phones.
Then there’s this new “Real-Time Triple Exposure HDR.” In simple terms: most phones take three pictures one after another for HDR, which is why moving things look blurry or “ghosted.” This phone captures all three at the exact same time. No more ghosting. Early whispers say it handles bright skies better than a Samsung and has more balance than an iPhone.
It’s also got a “True Colour Camera” that’s supposed to finally fix that annoying problem where your main camera and your zoom lens show totally different colours. That’s a huge deal for creators.
Computational Imaging Power
This is pretty cool: both Find X9 models can shoot in full 50MP mode on all the rear cameras, not just the main one. This gives you way more detail to play with if you’re editing or printing.
It’s running all this on a new “LUMO Image Engine,” which it claims somehow uses 50% less power. That’s a huge plus, since we all know how fast using the camera can kill a battery.
