Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 Announced: 77% GPU Boost and Wi-Fi 7, Devices Coming in H2 2026

Qualcomm Technologies has officially unveiled the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 mobile platforms at the third edition of Snapdragon for India in New Delhi, positioning India as the global launch market for its latest mid-range smartphone chipsets. The new platforms focus on smoother everyday performance, gaming upgrades, AI-powered experiences, improved battery efficiency, and expanded 5G connectivity.

Commercial smartphones powered by the new Snapdragon chips are expected to launch in the second half of 2026 from brands including OPPO, realme, and Xiaomi. Qualcomm also announced that Snapdragon Sound is officially entering India through a partnership with boAt.

Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 Focuses on Gaming, AI Cameras, and Faster Daily Performance

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 is aimed at upper mid-range smartphones and brings notable improvements over the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4. Qualcomm claims the chipset delivers up to 21% better GPU performance, alongside support for Wi-Fi 7 and ultra-fast 5G connectivity. The platform also introduces Qualcomm Adaptive Performance Engine 4.0, which is designed to maintain sustained gaming performance during longer sessions while improving thermal efficiency. Qualcomm says the chipset can deliver 20% faster app launches and reduce screen stutter by 18% compared to the previous generation, based on internal testing conducted on Qualcomm Reference Designs.

Another major addition is Snapdragon Smooth Motion UI, which Qualcomm says enables more fluid animations, smoother scrolling, and better responsiveness across the interface.

Xiaomi has already confirmed that upcoming smartphones will ship with both Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 platforms. Sandeep Singh Arora, Chief Business Officer at Xiaomi India, said the new chips will help the company deliver "smoother everyday interactions" and more responsive multitasking experiences.

Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 Brings Massive GPU Gains and 90FPS Gaming to Budget Phones

The Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 appears to be Qualcomm's biggest leap yet for the affordable smartphone segment. According to the company, the chipset delivers up to 77% better GPU performance than the previous generation while also bringing 90FPS gameplay support to the Snapdragon 4-series for the first time. Qualcomm says the platform is built to improve gaming, multimedia performance, and overall responsiveness on entry-level and lower mid-range devices.

The chipset also gains Snapdragon Smooth Motion UI support, with Qualcomm claiming 43% faster app launches and 25% lower screen stutter compared to the earlier generation.   Connectivity is another major focus. Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 supports Dual SIM Dual Active (DSDA) with 5G + 5G/4G connectivity, allowing users to maintain simultaneous network connections without compromise.

OPPO, realme, and Xiaomi have confirmed plans to launch smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 later this year. OPPO India's Head of Communications, Goldee Patnaik, highlighted improvements in graphics, AI, and overall responsiveness, while realme described the platform as the "next phase" in its effort to democratise premium smartphone experiences in India.

Snapdragon Sound Officially Enters India With boAt Nirvana Eutopia 2 Pro

Alongside the new mobile chipsets, Qualcomm announced its partnership with boAt to bring Snapdragon Sound to India for the first time. The first product under this collaboration will be the boAt Nirvana Eutopia 2 Pro headphones powered by the Snapdragon S3 Gen 1 Sound platform. Snapdragon Sound combines Qualcomm's silicon, aptX audio codecs, RF technologies, connectivity stack, and software optimisations to improve wireless audio quality, reduce latency, and deliver more stable audio performance across devices. The platform spans smartphones, earbuds, headphones, PCs, automotive systems, and accessories.

Shyam Vedantam, Chief Product Officer at boAt, said the integration involved deep engineering collaboration focused on codec optimisation and connectivity enhancements to deliver "consistent, high-fidelity performance."

India Becomes Qualcomm's Global Stage for Mid-Range Innovation

Qualcomm's decision to unveil both chipsets from India underlines the country's growing importance in the global smartphone ecosystem. Chris Patrick, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Handsets at Qualcomm Technologies, described India as one of the company's most important mobile markets globally.  The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 are expected to power a large wave of smartphones in the sub-Rs. 30,000 segment through the second half of 2026. On paper, Qualcomm's biggest gains appear to be around GPU performance, smoother UI responsiveness, and gaming stability, particularly for affordable devices where these areas have traditionally lagged.

The real test, however, will come once commercial devices arrive. MediaTek has aggressively strengthened its position in the mid-range category over the past two years, and Qualcomm now appears to be responding with a sharper focus on sustained gaming performance, UI smoothness, and practical day-to-day gains rather than headline benchmark numbers alone.
