At a starting price of Rs. 15,999 the Moto Tab G62 goes up against the Realme Pad Mini and OPPO Pad Air, what does it do differently to stand out in the market?
The tablet market seems to be on an uptick once again, as companies like Realme, Xiaomi, and OPPO have started launching their own. Motorola, who has lately been on a launching spree with smartphones in the budget segment, seems to want a piece of that cake.
The Moto Tab G62 has been launched in India with a starting price of Rs 15,999. The tablet is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 SoC and is available in a single storage variant. The Moto Tab G62 sees itself priced between the Realme Pad Mini and the OPPO Pad Air, which comes under the same bracket. We unboxed and used the Moto Tab G62 — which is named similarly to their recently launched smartphone Moto G62 priced under Rs 20,000 — and this is our first impression of the tablet.

Moto Tab G62 First Impressions: The unboxing experience
The unboxing experience with the Moto Tab G62 is pretty straightforward, and nothing too fancy. Upon opening up the box, the tablet greets you covered in plastic. Digging deep, you can find a 20W charger and a USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable for charging and data transfer purposes. In the other compartment, you can find some paperwork and a SIM ejector tool, as the variant we have supports LTE.
Moto Tab G62 First Impressions: Design and display
We feel like the Moto Tab G62 and the OPPO Pad Air have a very similar design approach with the back panel. Both have a dual-tone effect going on with the latter portraying a textured finish while the Moto Tab G62 goes for a simple look. Personally, we would’ve preferred a textured finish because that gives us something to fidget with while watching content on the device. The back panel sports a Motorola logo in the centre and a Dolby Atmos logo on the far right. It also features a single rear camera at the back. There’s only a single colour variant available which is called Frost Blue — it looks very subtle and not flashy by any means.
The Moto Tab G62 packs a 7700mAh battery inside, which is slightly more than what the OPPO Pad Air has to offer. The tablet tips the scale at 465g and has a thickness of 7.45mm which was slightly heavier for our liking. Beware, if you’re planning to use the tablet while lying down on the bed — it could really be a face smasher. The body is made out of metal, which is part of the reason why the tablet is on the heavier side.
The power button is placed at the top of the device, which feels like the right place for it as our index finger always rests on top of it. Besides that, you can find two speaker grilles at the top. The right side of the device sees the volume rockers, a microphone hole, and a SIM tray. The Moto Tab G62 LTE supports a single nano SIM and a microSD card up to 1TB for additional storage. The bottom has a 3.5mm headphone jack — which is actually missing from the OPPO Pad Air — two speaker grille, and a USB Type-C port for charging. The left side is devoid of any ports or buttons.
Let’s come to the front of the Moto Tab G62, which also happens to be a big selling point of any tablet. It sports a 10.6-inch 2K IPS LCD display which refreshes at 60Hz. Bezels on all four sides are prominent, but that is pretty much aligned with other devices in this segment. We watched a couple of our favourite TV shows and movies on the Moto Tab G62 and enjoyed it.
The quad-speaker setup plays a big part in it while the display also does good in terms of colour reproduction. Although, we noticed that the top right part of the back panel got slightly warm to the touch after 10-15 minutes of watching movies, and other videos — which was quite odd.
Moto Tab G62 First Impressions: Variants, pricing, and everything else
The Moto Tab G62 is available in two variants – one with just WiFi and the other with LTE and WiFi. Both have the same 4GB RAM and 64GB storage option. The former will set you back Rs 15,999 while the latter will cost you Rs 17,999.
Under the hood, the Moto Tab G62 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 SoC rated at 2.4GHz. As for connectivity, the device supports dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.1, and GPS, A-GPS. The OPPO Pad Air is also powered by the same processor, so it will be captivating to see how these two tablets go head to head.
Coming to the cameras, the Moto Tab G62 sports a single-camera setup at the back with an 8-megapixel sensor. The front of the device also sees an 8-megapixel camera with eye AF, for selfies. We’ll be testing both these cameras soon to see how they perform in real-world situations.
The Moto Tab G62 comes with Android 12 out of the box. Software experience on Moto devices has been good for the most part. The tablet does not come with a lot of bloatware except for Netflix and an Entertainment Space which pops out on the home screen. We couldn’t find a way to disable that in the settings app.
The device is IP52 rated, so using it under light showers should not be an issue for the tablet. The 20W charger in the box is faster than what the competition is offering, which is good.
