Realme, days after teasing its new budget smartphone, the Narzo 50A Prime, has finally launched it in India. The Narzo 50A Prime expands the Narzo 50 lineup and is placed somewhere between the vanilla Narzo 50 and Narzo 50A. There are some decent specifications under the hood for the price it is coming in. You can get the base variant at under Rs 12,000, while the one with more storage costs a bit more. You get the handset in Black and Blue colour options.
Being the fourth model after Narzo 50, Narzo 50A and Narzo 50i, the new Narzo 50A Prime will be taking on smartphones coming from its arch-rivals Xiaomi and Samsung. These two also have some fairly competitive smartphones including the Redmi 10 and the Galaxy M12 in the same price range. So, let’s compare them head-on to see which one is more bang for the buck.

Realme Narzo 50A Prime comes in two variants based on the same RAM but different storage options. The base model has 4GB RAM with 64GB storage and is priced at Rs 11,499, whereas the 4GB + 128GB storage option is priced at Rs 12,499. The Redmi 10 starts at Rs 10,999 for 4GB and 64GB storage options, while the Rs 12,999 model offers 6GB RAM with 128GB storage. On the other hand, Galaxy M12 costs Rs 11,499 for the 4GB+64GB model and Rs 13,499 for the 6GB+128GB model.

The design of Realme Narzo 50A Prime sticks to the block-like design trend. The handset is 8.1mm slim, which makes it the thinnest Narzo-branded phone as claimed by the website. Available in Black and Blue, the Narzo 50A Prime has the kevlar speed texture that was seen in the Narzo 50. This adds to the overall sporty look of the smartphone. Redmi 10 comes in Black, Blue and Green. It has a smaller rear camera island, unlike Narzo 50A Prime which has the camera island going from one end to another. The Redmi 10 also has a soft texture finish at the back and has a curved design on the sides. Samsung Galaxy M12 has a similar finish as Redmi 10 and a similar squared rear camera enclosure. You get this in Black, Blue and White.

Realme Narzo 50A Prime has a 6.6-inch IPS LCD with a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. At the top, there’s a waterdrop notch including the front camera. Redmi 10 has a 6.7-inch IPS LCD screen with low HD+ resolution and almost the same 20:6 aspect ratio. Samsung has a slightly smaller 6.5-inch TFT LCD screen with HD+ (720×1600 pixels) resolution. However, it does give you a 90Hz refresh rate.

As for the performance, Narzo 50A Prime makes use of a Unisoc T612 SoC (12nm), which as mentioned above, is paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB/128GB storage. Redmi 10, on the other hand, works on Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 SoC (6nm) along with 4GB/6GB RAM and 64GB/128GB storage. Samsung’s Galaxy M12 has an Exynos 850 octa-core processor (8nm), which sits between Narzo 50A Prime’s Unisoc and Redmi 10’s Snapdragon 680.

Realme Narzo 50A Prime flaunts a triple-camera setup. There is a 50MP main camera sensor along with a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP portrait sensor. Powering the Narzo 50A Prime is a rather generous 5000mAh battery capacity, which is on the higher side of the spectrum in smartphones. The device also supports 18W fast-charging tech via a USB-C port. Redmi 10 has a slightly bigger battery at 6,000mAh, which is bound to deliver a bit more. It comes with a 10W charger inside the box but supports up to 18W fast charging. Samsung also delivers a 6,000mAh battery in Galaxy M12. However, it also gives you a 15W charger inside the box.

Realme Narzo 50A Prime seems like a decent offering by the firm in the sub-Rs 12,000 segment. However, its arrival might not make heads turn since the Redmi 10 and Galaxy M12 in the same price range are offering a tab bit more in terms of power, battery and cameras. The Narzo 50A Prime does look good with its squared-off design and the ‘Kevlar’ touch along with a unique rear camera design and might click well with those who want a decent smartphone that looks more sporty.
