Thomson has added two new models to its QLED Smart TV lineup with the launch of 50-inch and 55-inch variants powered by JioTele OS. The televisions, priced at ₹19,999 and ₹25,999 respectively, will be available exclusively during Flipkart's Big Billion Days sale starting September 23, with early access from September 22.
The new models continue Thomson's push around JioTele OS, India's homegrown smart TV platform developed by Jio. Features include 4K QLED displays with HDR10+, AI-based content suggestions through Content Guru, and HelloJio voice assistant with support for over ten Indian languages. The bezel-less design, alloy stands, and dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity align the TVs with current market expectations for larger-screen home entertainment devices. Buyers will also receive three months of JioHotstar and one month of JioGames bundled with the purchase.
These two new TVs come with ultra-high-definition resolution, HDR10 support, and 40W sound output powered by Dolby MS 12, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS TruSurround, along with built-in Chromecast, AirPlay support, and remotes with dedicated shortcuts for Google Assistant, Netflix, YouTube, and Google Play. On the QLED side, Thomson is offering HDR10+, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS TruSurround, a bezel-less design, 40W Dolby Audio stereo speakers, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, and dual-band Wi-Fi. Together, the new 50- and 55-inch JioTele OS QLEDs expand this lineup with 4K panels, AI-powered content recommendations, and multi-language voice support, extending the brand's options for buyers upgrading to larger screens.
Large Screen, Low Price
The timing of the launch underlines how competitive India's television market has become in the run-up to the festive season. Larger screens in the 50–55 inch segment are now moving from premium to mainstream, as brands try to capture the growing appetite for cinema-like experiences at home. Thomson has cut prices across its portfolio by up to ₹6,000, passing on the benefit of GST reductions directly to consumers. This places its new QLED TVs at the lower end of the pricing spectrum for the category, where rivals like Samsung, LG, and Xiaomi typically position their QLEDs at higher brackets.
For consumers weighing options, the key decision is between screen size and features. The 50-inch variant offers a strong entry point for buyers moving up from 32- or 43-inch TVs, while the 55-inch model caters to those seeking a more immersive setup without entering the costlier 65-inch tier. Both models make sense for first-time QLED buyers who want 4K visuals and regional-language smart features at accessible prices. For those prioritising advanced backlighting technology and higher brightness, Thomson's Mini QD LED range or premium competitors remain alternatives.
By combining localised software with lower entry pricing, Thomson is attempting to expand the base of QLED adoption in India. Whether this strategy leads to long-term market share gains will depend on how quickly consumers shift from smaller entry-level smart TVs to larger and more feature-rich options during this festive cycle.
