Xiaomi Unveils Three-Drum Washing Machine With AI Features in China

Xiaomi has officially launched a three-drum smart washing machine in China, signalling a major step in its ambitions to expand into the large appliance market. At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, Xiaomi first talked about its plans to move beyond smartphones and TVs to compete with established white goods players. In India, it has already introduced air fryers, air purifiers and Robotic Vacuum cleaners. However, after its MWC, it had launched its AC range under the Mijia branding in March 2025 and even branched to refrigerators with Mijia Refrigerator Pro Dual-System French Door 513 L in July 2025.

Premium Calling

Coming back to the washing machines, Xiaomi’s latest launch is unlike traditional single-drum or even dual-drum machines, Xiaomi's latest washer comes with one central 10 kg drum and two smaller auxiliary drums designed for delicates, baby clothes, or quick washes. Each drum is fitted with an independent water inlet, drainage, and suspension system, which ensures there is no cross-contamination between loads. This means a household can run three different cycles simultaneously. For example, bedding in the main drum, sportswear in the second, and undergarments in the third, and you can do them all together without waiting for one cycle to finish.

Each drum has its own independent water channel and suspension system to prevent cross-contamination. Xiaomi has added its HyperOS smart platform, AI-powered cycle optimization, and automatic detergent dispensing to the machine.

The engineering is also backed by twin direct-drive motors that independently control the spin of each drum, optimizing both energy efficiency and noise reduction.

In China, the model is priced at ¥9,999 (approx. $1,400), placing it firmly in the premium category. That is a significant step up from the company's earlier dual-drum machines, which started around ¥3,999.

AI and HyperOS Integration

Xiaomi is emphasizing AI-assisted laundry as the defining feature of this machine:

  • Load and Fabric Detection – The system uses weight and motion sensors to analyze each load's volume and material composition. Based on this, it automatically sets the optimal wash time, water level, and spin intensity.

  • Weather-Adaptive Drying – HyperOS connects to local weather data, adjusting drying temperature and cycle length depending on outdoor humidity levels.

  • Smart Detergent Dispensing – Built-in reservoirs automatically release the right amount of detergent and softener per cycle, reducing waste and avoiding overuse.

  • Odor and Hygiene Control – If clothes remain in the drum after a cycle, the AI triggers a "fresh air" ventilation system to prevent musty smells.

  • Sterilization Features – The "Blue Oxygen" system injects oxygen ions into the wash to break down bacteria, while high-temperature steam sterilization claims up to 99.99% germ removal.

Through HyperOS Connect, the washer integrates with the wider Xiaomi ecosystem. Users can control it remotely via the Mi Home app, schedule cycles, receive OTA software updates, and even use voice commands through XiaoAI. Over time, the machine can learn user patterns, such as preferred wash times or frequently used modes and even make predictive suggestions.

Building on Earlier Launches

Building on earlier launches, Xiaomi has steadily expanded its washing machine portfolio through 2025. The year began with the Mijia Dual-Zone Washer Pro, a dual-drum model that introduced Blue Oxygen cleaning, AI detergent dosing, and HyperOS integration at a mid-tier price point. This was followed by the slimmer 10 kg Blue Oxygen Pro washer-dryer, aimed at urban homes, and a larger 12 kg Pro Washer-Dryer for families.

Notably, the above launches, along with refrigerators and air conditioners, continue to be sold under the Mijia brand. However, for this new launch of the three-drum washing machine, it has opted for a Xiaomi branding. The strategy mirrors its smartphone playbook, where Redmi handles the volume game while the Xiaomi series showcases flagship innovation. By branding these washers outside of Mijia, the company is signalling that multi-drum and AI-powered laundry are meant to be its halo products in the appliance space, competing directly with established global premium brands.

Strategy and Global Outlook

Xiaomi's broader "Human × Home × Car" vision puts appliances at the heart of its IoT strategy. While its washing machines remain China-first launches, the company has already begun seeding appliances abroad. For instance, a Mijia Washer-Dryer Pro is listed at €579 in Europe. The three-drum model may stay China-exclusive in the short term, but its launch underscores Xiaomi's intent to compete in the same space as LG, Samsung, and Bosch, brands long known for premium multi-drum and AI-assisted washers.

The Bigger Picture

The premium price tag raises two questions: will consumers see value in AI-driven laundry, and can Xiaomi build the after-sales service and support network that large appliances require? For now, the company is betting that features such as multi-drum washing, AI automation, and integrated hygiene systems will resonate with tech-forward households.

,Also we are still wondering when the company will be expanding these products beyond the home market and how important will India be for its expansion plans.
