Xiaomi devices have a streak of debuting in the company’s homeland first and then in other markets. The company is yet to launch its Mi 8 series phones in India. Among the Mi 8 series, the Mi 8 Lite falls under the budget category as it is a lite variant of the Mi 8 smartphone. It is the lowest-end variant in the Mi 8 line-up but still packs some substantials features. The phone has a gradient finish and a 24MP front camera. Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite Price in India
It is quite speculative to mention the price of a device that is yet to launch in India. In this case, we use the currency conversion to get a ballpark figure for the device’s pricing whenever it goes official in India. The Mi 8 Lite has been launched at a starting price of CNY 1,399 (roughly INR 14,800) in China for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant. The 6GB RAM + 64GB storage model is priced at CNY 1,699 (roughly Rs. 18,000) and the high-end 6GB RAM + 128GB storage version costs CNY 1,999 (roughly Rs. 22,000). Going by this pricing, we can expect Xiaomi to launch the Mi 8 Lite under 25K in India.

A recent report from GSMArena stated that Xiaomi is prepping for the global launch of the Mi 8 Lite. A tweet from Donovan Sung, Xiaomi’s global spokesperson confirmed that the company is launching the phone in France. The tweet also teased the launch for several other regions. Given Xiaomi’s enthusiasm for widening Mi 8 Lite’s availability in more markets, we can expect it to bring the device to Indian shores too. After all, India makes up for an important market for Xiaomi.

Interestingly, the tweet by Mr. Sung clearly indicates that the Mi 8 Lite may debut in more gradient color options for global markets. Currently, the phone is available in Twilight Gold, Dream Blue, and Deep Space Gray color options.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite: Specifications, Features
Let’s dig into the specifications and features of the Mi 8 Lite, the phone features a 6.26-inch IPS LCD screen with a notch on the top. It bears a resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels and a 19:9 aspect ratio. The phone comes powered by Qualcomm’s mid-range chipset – Snapdragon 660 – based on 14nm manufacturing process, clubbed with Adreno 512 GPU. The phone has 4GB/6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB storage, depending on the variant.
Concerning the optics, the Mi 8 Lite has 12MP + 5MP AI dual rear camera setup with support for AI Scene Recognition. The primary 12MP lens in the setup has a f/1.9 aperture lens and 1.4um pixel size to click brighter pictures. On the front, the Mi 8 Lite boasts a 24MP sensor with Sony IMX576 sensor with a slew of AI-assisted features. Connectivity options on the Mi 8 Lite include Dual 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, USB Type-C port, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, and BeiDou. A 3350mAh battery completes the package.
Although the phone packs almost all the specs that one needs, it misses out on the 3.5mm audio jack. A USB Type-C to 3.5mm adapter is provided in the bundle for connecting 3.5mm cables though. On the software side, the Mi 8 Lite ships with MIUI 10 and Android 8.1 Oreo. However, Xiaomi may soon roll out Android 9.0 Pie-based MIUI 10 for the phone.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite: Competition in India
Well, whenever Xiaomi launches the phone in India, it will have to price it quite carefully to win the market. One of the biggest challenges for Xiaomi is its own POCO F1 phone in India, which comes with top of the line specs such as Snapdragon 845 SoC. It would be interesting to see how Xiaomi positions the Mi 8 Lite in the Indian market.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite, which is called Mi 8 Youth Edition in China, will come in a new storage configuration starting November 16 in China. The handset will be available with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage from Friday. The device may reach other markets in this configuration, but Xiaomi has not said anything about this part yet, although it has confirmed the global launch of the device as Mi 8 Lite.
