Realme's P Series was built around a familiar formula: pack in strong specifications and keep the price aggressive. However, according to Francis Wong, Head of Global Product Marketing at Realme, the company's approach to the lineup changed with the arrival of the P4 Series.
Speaking to MySmartPrice, Wong explained how Realme is trying to reposition the P Series around new technology, the thinking behind its dual-chip architecture, and why the company believes dedicated graphics processing could eventually make its way into more affordable smartphones.
Realme Says the P4 Series Was the Turning Point for the P Series
For Wong, the introduction of the P4 Series is where the P Series stopped being simply an affordable, specification-focused lineup.
"I'd point right to the introduction of the Realme P4 Series as the exact moment things changed," Wong said. The company now defines the "P" as Pioneer, reflecting a shift towards introducing new technologies in the segment rather than simply competing on specifications. Wong said consumer feedback has played an important role in deciding where that technology should be applied.
That thinking has resulted in some unconventional choices across the P4 family. The P4 Power, for example, comes with a 10,001mAh battery, while the P4 Pro introduced Realme's dual-chip approach. The P4s continues that strategy with the company's HyperVision+ AI chip. For Wong, the objective is to make newer technologies available without forcing buyers into significantly higher price brackets.
P Series Takes No. 2 Market Share Position on Flipkart
The repositioning of the P Series has also coincided with stronger performance on Flipkart.
Wong said that during H1 2026, the P Series became the fastest-growing smartphone lineup on the platform and reached the No. 2 position by market share. The ₹10,000–₹15,000 segment has been the strongest contributor, where the P Series claimed the No. 1 position. The lineup also made it into the Top 3 in the ₹15,000–₹20,000 and ₹20,000–₹25,000 segments. Wong attributed the performance to continued investment in features such as large batteries, dedicated processing hardware and AI capabilities, even as component costs have increased.
Why Realme Added a Second Chip to the P4 Pro and P4s
The more interesting part of Realme's strategy is its decision to use two chips rather than relying entirely on the main smartphone processor. In the P4 Pro and P4s, the MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Ultra handles the primary computing workload, while the HyperVision+ chip is dedicated to graphics and frame interpolation.
"Think of the HyperVision+ chip as a dedicated co-pilot," Wong explained. The chip is responsible for several visual and gaming-related features. Game AI Hyper Motion can increase supported gaming experiences to up to 144 FPS, while AI Hyper Clarity is designed to improve image detail and produce 1.5K-level visuals. AI Always-On HDR focuses on improving lighting and shadow detail. The decision to add a second chip is also about workload distribution. Instead of asking a single SoC to handle everything, Realme is separating graphics processing from the primary computing workload.
Wong said this approach allows the company to optimise resource allocation and thermal management while also improving battery efficiency. The idea is to deliver a higher level of gaming performance and visual processing without having to move to a more expensive flagship-class chipset.
P4s Has a Different Role Within the P4 Family
With the P4, P4 Pro, P4 Power and P4s now sitting within the same family, Realme has had to give each model a distinct purpose.
Wong described the P4 Power as the endurance-focused model, with its 10,001mAh battery aimed at users who prioritise battery life above everything else. The P4 Pro is positioned around performance, with its dual-chip architecture and dedicated graphics processing forming the centrepiece of the device. The standard P4 takes a more balanced approach, targeting everyday requirements such as studying, gaming and multitasking. The P4s sits somewhat differently. It is aimed at users who spend significant amounts of time on their phones and want a stronger combination of display quality and sustained performance. Its HyperVision AI+ capabilities are a key part of that proposition. Rather than treating the devices as direct alternatives to one another, Realme sees the P4 family as a set of phones built around different usage patterns.
Dual-Chip Architecture Could Eventually Reach Phones Below ₹20,000
The technology may not remain limited to the higher end of the P Series for long.
Wong said Realme would have liked to bring dual-chip architecture to smartphones priced below ₹20,000 sooner, but the current memory cost situation has made that difficult.
"We would have brought it to even ₹20K and below price segments if the Memory Cost Crisis was not here in 2026," Wong said. He expects that to change once the current cost pressures ease, arguing that there is no fundamental reason why dual-chip architecture should remain limited to more expensive smartphones.
"I have the confidence that even budget smartphones can come with dual-chip architectures," Wong added. And Realme is already working on the next step. Wong confirmed that the company is developing a new dedicated GPU along with a new generation of its HyperVision AI+ chip. These technologies are not being reserved for the P Series either. Realme plans to bring them to both the P Series and its Number Series.
Wong indicated that there is a good chance the next generation of this technology could appear in Realme smartphones in 2027. The P4 Series, therefore, represents more than another iteration of Realme's affordable smartphone lineup. The company's focus is shifting towards bringing technologies that traditionally sit higher up the market into lower price segments. The bigger question now is how quickly Realme can scale that approach once component costs become less restrictive.
