Sandisk has announced the availability of its Optimus GX PRO 8100 NVMe SSD and Optimus GX 7100 NVMe SSD in India. The new internal SSDs are aimed at gamers, content creators and professionals handling demanding workloads, including AAA gaming, AI applications and high-resolution content creation.
The two SSDs sit at different performance levels. The Optimus GX PRO 8100 is designed for high-end PCs, workstations, AI PCs and professional workloads, while the Optimus GX 7100 focuses on gaming and creative applications for laptops and handheld devices.
Sandisk Optimus GX PRO 8100 Specifications
The Sandisk Optimus GX PRO 8100 is the more powerful SSD of the two and uses a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface. It offers sequential read speeds of up to 14,900MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 14,000MB/s, making it suited to workloads that involve moving large amounts of data. The SSD is available in capacities of up to 8TB, with the 8TB model rated for up to 4,800 TBW. This makes it suitable for users who frequently write large amounts of data, including professionals working with high-resolution media and other demanding workloads.
Sandisk is also offering an anodised aluminium heatsink with the drive to help manage temperatures during sustained workloads.

The Sandisk Optimus GX 7100 is positioned as a more balanced option for gamers and creators who want high performance without moving to PCIe 5.0.
It uses a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface and delivers sequential read speeds of up to 7,250MB/s, while sequential write speeds reach up to 6,900MB/s on the 1TB and 2TB variants. The SSD also features Sandisk's nCache 4.0 technology, which is designed to support responsive gameplay and demanding everyday applications.
The GX 7100 is available in capacities ranging from 500GB to 4TB, giving users multiple options depending on their storage requirements. It is particularly targeted at laptops and handheld gaming devices, alongside desktop gaming and creative systems.
The key difference between the two SSDs is their underlying interface and performance ceiling. The GX PRO 8100 moves to PCIe 5.0, offering almost twice the sequential read speed of the GX 7100, while also reaching significantly higher write speeds.
The GX PRO 8100 is therefore better suited to high-end desktops, workstations, AI PCs and users who regularly handle large files or intensive workloads. The GX 7100, meanwhile, makes more sense for gamers, creators and laptop or handheld users who want strong PCIe 4.0 performance and flexible storage capacities.
