Several iPhone users have complained that their alarms have been ringing silently since last week, causing them to oversleep. The issue has been mainly spotted on iPhones with FaceID. According to reports, Apple is working on a fix to address the issue. In the meantime, users from the iPhone Community forums have suggested some tips to prevent alarms from ringing silently.

The silent alarm problem in iPhones appears to be widespread, especially among iPhone 15 users. However, the root cause behind the problem is still unclear.

Some users have speculated that the Attention Aware Feature in iOS is causing this problem. Although this setting is designed to let users expand notifications on their lock screen, it can also disable the alarm if the iPhone detects the user looking at the screen. This feature can be disabled by going to Settings > Face ID and Passcode > Attention Awareness Features.

In addition to this, some users have also suggested disabling the Change with Buttons toggle under Settings > Sound & Haptics. This can accidentally reduce the alarm volume when the user hits the volume buttons.

Apple confirmed the issue in a statement to USA-based NBC’s Today Show. The company is working on a fix for it. However, Apple has not disclosed the exact reason behind this silent alarm issue.

If you are an iPhone user who sets alarms daily, then it’s a good idea to double-check your alarm volume settings before going to bed. Disabling the Attention Awareness Feature may also help as a preventive measure. Apple is expected to patch this soon, hence you should also watch for updates on your iPhone.

Some users have become so paranoid about this issue that they have purchased dedicated alarm clocks after missing the alarm multiple times over the last week. If your early morning routine is important and requires sharp punctuality, this solution is a safer bet until Apple releases a fix.
