KRAFTON Launches BGMI Campus MVP Program to Build India’s Largest Student Gaming Community

KRAFTON India has unveiled the BGMI Campus MVP programme, a new student-led initiative aimed at building one of India's largest gaming communities across engineering colleges. The 90-day programme brings together 150 student ambassadors from 17 IITs and 28 NITs, who will organise BGMI tournaments, create gaming content, host offline meet-ups and drive community engagement on their campuses.

Rather than being another esports tournament, Campus MVP focuses on building long-term gaming communities by giving students leadership roles within their institutions.

Selected ambassadors will build and manage BGMI communities, organise regular scrimmages, create campus-first gaming content, host offline events and represent their institutions in national competitions.

According to KRAFTON India, the programme received over 16,000 applications from students across more than 5,000 institutions, with 150 ambassadors making the inaugural cohort and another 100 shortlisted as reserves.

Rewards Include Gaming Gear, UC and Cash Incentives

Campus MVP also introduces a progression-based reward system.

Ambassadors will earn Rank Points (RP) by completing activities throughout the programme, unlocking rewards that range from welcome kits and vouchers to in-game UC, gaming accessories, premium headphones and backpacks. The top five performers nationally can receive rewards worth up to Rs. 15,000, while players participating through ambassadors will also compete for vouchers and BGMI merchandise across different phases.

With Campus MVP, KRAFTON appears to be investing in community building rather than simply hosting competitive tournaments.

The initiative comes at a time when brands are increasingly trying to establish a presence inside colleges, where gaming clubs, creator communities and esports events continue to grow. Instead of focusing solely on professional players, KRAFTON is encouraging students to become organisers, creators and community leaders, expanding BGMI's presence beyond gameplay itself.

What's In For Students?

Campus esports programmes have become increasingly popular globally, but structured initiatives at this scale remain relatively uncommon in India.

By involving IITs and NITs from the outset, KRAFTON is targeting institutions that already have active technology and gaming communities. If the programme expands successfully to more universities, it could provide students with opportunities beyond competitive gaming, including event management, content creation, community leadership and creator collaborations.

For students who already play BGMI regularly, Campus MVP offers more than just rewards. It provides an opportunity to build gaming communities, organise events and gain leadership experience while representing their college. Even those who don't aspire to become professional esports players could benefit from networking and community-building opportunities created through the programme.

KRAFTON deserves credit for looking beyond traditional esports tournaments. Prize pools attract attention for a few days, but community programmes create longer-lasting engagement. If Campus MVP continues beyond a single season and expands into more colleges, it could become one of the strongest grassroots gaming initiatives in India. The real success of the programme, however, will depend on whether these campus communities remain active long after the initial 90-day campaign concludes.
