Bard is one of the newest generative AI chatbots that went official barely eight months ago. It is Google’s answer to the popular ChatGPT chatbot and has improved significantly over time. One of its biggest updates was the introduction of extensions that allow Bard to connect with Google services like Gmail, Drive, Maps, YouTube, and more. The team behind the chatbot has now updated the YouTube extension to make it more useful than just searching relevant videos.
How to Ask Google Bard Questions About YouTube Videos?
The latest post on the official Google Bard updates page mentions the generative AI chatbot has now become better at understanding videos. Prior to this update, Bard could only show you a list of YouTube videos relevant to your query. You still needed to sit through the whole video and watch it to get what you were actually looking for. All of this is changing now with the newest update.
Bard can now watch YouTube videos on your behalf and answer questions about the content. It means let’s say you asked for recipe videos for a particular dish, you can now also ask Bard questions like what are ingredients used and what is the quantity for a particular ingredient in the video. As Google said, “If you’re looking for videos on how to make olive oil cake, you can now also ask how many eggs the recipe in the first video requires.”
In our testing of the new Bard YouTube extension feature, it was hit and miss at the moment. It worked for some of the videos but was unable to answer for others. This is understandable considering the feature is just getting rolled out and will likely be improved with time.
You can give the updated feature a try by visiting Google Bard on your web browser. Ask questions related to a YouTube video you are searching for and it should work. If it does not work, make sure you have the YouTube extension enabled by visiting the Bards extension page. The toggle next to the YouTube icon should be turned on.
Google certainly has big plans for the Bard chatbot. It recently announced Assistant with Bard for Android and iOS smartphones. This will allow Google Assistant to help users by utilizing the generative AI powers of Bard. The amped-up Assistant will roll out to all users in the coming months.
A fresh report revealed Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S24 series will be the first smartphones after Google Pixel phones to receive Assistant with Bard. The speculation is based on strings in the code of the Google App Beta 14.41 version.
