Google Pixel 8 series is likely to launch in the coming months. The search engine giant might launch its new Pixel series flagship phones in October. The Pixel 8 series will likely include two premium devices. There will be the vanilla Pixel 8, on top of which would be the Pixel 8 Pro. Google is likely to launch the Pixel 8 series with some minor tweaks in design but the flagship series is likely to get some upgrades under the hood. The company did not preview the Pixel 8 series at I/O 2023. Meanwhile, new details about the Google flagship phones have surfaced online.

A new leak has now revealed the processor details of the Pixel 8 series. As expected, the Pixel 8 series will feature the Tensor G3 SoC. While that is sort of a given now, a new report by Android Authority has revealed some key specifications and features of the SoC that will power the Pixel 8 series.

The Upcoming Google Pixel 8 Series Might be the Most Powerful Pixel Yet

The Google Pixel 8 series will feature the upcoming Tensor G3 SoC, which is reportedly codenamed “Zuma” and pack ARM V9 cores. According to the Android Authority report, Google will reportedly also modify the core layout from a 4+2+2 setup to a not-so-common nine-core layout.

The report stated that the Tensor G3 will feature a prime Cortex X3 core, four Cortex-A715 cores and four Cortex-A510. The Cortex X3 core will reportedly have a peak clock speed of 3.0GHz, whereas the A715 cores will clock at 2.45GHz. The remaining four A510 cores will peak at 2.15GHz.

In comparison, the Tensor G2 had two Cortex X1 cores clocked at 2.85GHz, two Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.3GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. For graphics, there will be a 10-core Mali-G715 GPU with a peak clock speed of 890MHz.

The Pixel 8 series will also feature new security technologies, according to the report. There will be Arm’s Memory Tagging Extensions (MTE), which can prevent some memory-based attacks.

Tensor G3 will also provide support for 8K 30fps video decoding/encoding in H.264 and HEVC. However, the report added that the current testing unit of the Pixel 8 does not feature an option to record 8K videos.

Other improvements include support for faster UFS 4.0 storage, an upgraded TPU codenamed Rio running at 1.1GHz, etc.

Pixel 8 series will be the first to feature the Tensor G3 and if past launches are enough proof, the SoC will likely feature in the Pixel 8a next year. Google has not revealed any details about the SoC at the time of writing this. Therefore, we advise waiting for the official details while taking the leaked information with a pinch of salt.

In case you missed it, MySmartPrice revealed the exclusive design renders of the Pixel 8 months ago. The flagship series phone will continue to sport a dual-camera setup on the back and sport a 6.2-inch OLED display, which is slightly smaller than the Pixel 7’s 6.3-inch screen.
