Google has been introducing its A-series mid-range smartphones at its yearly I/O event and is expected to follow the ritual this year too. It is expected to launch the much-anticipated Pixel 8a at the I/O 2024 set to kick off on May 14. And with the barrage of rumours and leaks surrounding the upcoming A-series device, nothing is left to the imagination. If you are looking forward to picking up the cheapest Pixel 8 series smartphone as and when it arrives, here’s everything you need to know.

Google Pixel 8a: Everything You Need to Know

The Pixel 8a is expected to retain the same design and chipset as its flagship siblings. These are the reasons enough to be excited about the new launch. Let’s look at all expected and leaked Pixel 8a specifications and details.

Google Pixel 8a: Price in India

Google bumped the pricing of the Pixel 8 series this year with Pixel 8 Pro becoming the first Pixel device to touch a 6-digit price tag. However, if reports are to be believed, the Pixel 8a will be priced the same as its predecessor. To recall, the Pixel 7a was launched at Rs 43,999 in India.

Google Pixel 8a: Design

The Pixel 8a design is no longer a surprise because of multiple leaks floating around. We have seen live images, renders, dummy unit images, and leaked retail box images, all of which give us a clear idea of what the smartphone might look like. And yes the design is very familiar to us.

The leaks have revealed that the Pixel 8a will look identical to the Pixel 8 complete with the raised-visor dual camera module on the back and rounded corners. Another leak has confirmed that the Pixel 8a will be offered in Obsidian, Porcelain, Bay, and Mint colours.

Google Pixel 8a: Display

A recent rumour has confirmed the core specifications of the upcoming Pixel device including the display details. According to the leak, the Pixel 8a will flaunt the same display features as the pricier Pixel 8, albeit with a slightly smaller 6.1-inch OLED panel.

The Pixel 8a is also expected to be the first A-series device from Google to offer a 120Hz refresh rate. Other features include a peak brightness of 1,400nits and a corner radius of 128px. The upcoming smartphone is also speculated to come with support for DisplayPort output.

Google Pixel 8a: Performance and Software

The Pixel 8a will have the same Tensor G3 processor as the other Pixel 8 series devices. The phone is also tipped to come with the Titan M security chip.

However, there’s a catch. A leaked Geekbench listing of the Pixel 8a revealed that while the Tensor G3 SoC will power the device, it will be an underclocked variant. The phone will come with Mali-G715 GPU and 8GB RAM. On the software side of things, the Pixel 8a will booth the Android 14 out of the box.

Google Pixel 8a: Cameras

Rumours suggest that Google is unlikely to mess with the camera specs of Pixel 8a. The smartphone will come with the same 64MP primary camera, a 13MP ultra-wide camera, and a 13MP selfie camera, like the Pixel 7a. However, we can expect it to offer newer Pixel 8-specific features.

These include Best Take (which ensures everyone in the group photos looks their best), the Magic Editor, Audio Magic Eraser, Video Boost, and others. While it’s difficult to say which of these features will come to Pixel 8a, you can rest assured that some of them will.

Google Pixel 8a: Battery

Battery has been the pain point for Pixel A series devices in the past. The Pixel 7a was launched with a 4,385mAh battery, which was slightly smaller than the one powering the Pixel 6a. However, the Pixel 8a is tipped to come with a larger 4,500mAh battery with 27W fast charging support and 7.5W wireless charging. Notably, the Pixel 7a only supports 18W charging.

Another report has revealed that the Pixel 8a and newer models will have an improved battery stats suite of features. It will show the battery’s date of manufacture, total charging cycles completed, and battery health in percentage.

There you go; everything you need to know about the upcoming Pixel 8a smartphone. We should get more information about the Pixel 8a in the coming days and update this article with the latest information, so stay tuned.
