Huawei P30 Pro First Impressions, Unboxing Video
Huawei P30 Pro’s 6.47-inch OLED Screen Is HDR10 Compatible
The Huawei P30 Pro uses a 6.47-inch OLED screen with Full HD+ resolution (2340×1080 pixels) and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The screen has curved edges on its sides and features DCI-P3 color gamut as well as HDR10 playback compatibility. This means that you can thoroughly enjoy watching HDR videos on Netflix, Prime Video, and YouTube. There are very thin bezels a the top and the bottom, resulting in an almost bezel-less experience. The Huawei P30 Pro has a U-shaped notch at the top of the screen to accommodate the selfie camera.
Unlike the P20 Pro, which has a conventional earpiece, the P30 Pro uses screen resonance technology which is claimed to offer a much wider listening area and louder audio, thanks to the bone conduction-like mechanism. There’s an under-display fingerprint reader (optical), which Huawei claims to have 30% faster speed compared to the fingerprint reader used in the Mate 20 Pro.
The Huawei P30 Pro has a beautiful aluminum-and-glass body with a color gradient finish on the rear.
EMUI Gets Better With Kirin 980-Equipped Huawei P30 Pro
The Huawei P30 Pro uses the Kirin 980 processor, at least 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage space. The phone also features a Nano Memory card slot, which can be used for storage expansion. The Huawei P30 Pro is also available in more memory configurations: 8GB RAM + 128GB storage, 8GB RAM + 256GB storage, and 8GB RAM + 512GB storage
Unlike the P20 Pro, the P30 Pro will not disappoint in the software department. Huawei’s proprietary EMUI Android skin is not liked by many, but the company has been paying heed and on the P30 Pro, the EMUI isn’t a drawback. It will be more like Android and less like what Huawei wanted to impose with the previous versions. Pretty much like Oxygen OS on OnePlus, the EMUI on P30 Pro is smooth, efficient, and less bloated.
Huawei P30 Pro’s Quad-Camera Setup Includes 5x Optical Zoom
Taking a step further from the P20 Pro, the P30 Pro features quad-camera setup on the rear camera setup. Huawei is using the same 40MP primary sensor size (at 1/1.7 inches) that was used in the P20 Pro, but the new sensor has a wider aperture (f/1.6). It also features a 27mm wide-angle lens, phase-detection autofocus (PDAF) and OIS. The 20MP sensor (1/2.7-inch) has f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and a 16mm ultra-wide angle lens. The 8MP camera sensor uses a unique, periscope-style 5x optical zoom lens. This is the most innovative camera feature of the Huawei P30 Pro.
Combining the additional information from the 40MP sensor, Huawei even offers a lossless-grade 10x zoom and 50x digital zoom capability to the P30 Pro. The fourth camera is actually a 3D Time of Flight (ToF) sensor, which can accurately measure the depth information of any object or subject in 3D space, allowing better bokeh effect (background blur). The company’s AI camera mode adjusts camera settings on the fly for better and more dramatic images. The Huawei P30 Pro’s rear-facing camera setup is still limited to 4K 30fps video recording, though, which is a limitation from the Kirin 980’s ISP. The Huawei P30 Pro can record 1080p 60fps, 1080p 30fps, and 720p 960fps (ultra-slow-motion) videos using its rear-facing camera setup.
At the front, the Huawei P30 Pro is using Samsung’s 32MP ISOCELL GD1 sensor. The camera sensor has f/2.0 aperture is paired with a wide-angle lens. It has native HDR capabilities and 1080p video recording capability.
Improved Battery Life, Wireless & Reverse Wireless Charging
Coming to the powerhouse of the phone, i.e. battery; a 4,200mAh battery backs the Huawei P30 Pro with support for Huawei SuperCharge 2.0 (40W) fast charging technology. The phone also comes bundled with a 40W SuperCharge-compatible charger. The Huawei P30 Pro brings support for wireless charging for the first time in a P series smartphone. The phone also features reverse wireless charging, which lets users wirelessly charge other phones or accessories like compatible wireless earbuds.
