The Google Wallet app is officially available in India after being limited to the US for over two years. As reported earlier, the app, which allows people to store tickets, cards, and more, was earlier available to some users only. Here are the details.

Google Wallet Now Available for Android Users

The Google Wallet app acts as a single place to store digital documents like movie tickets, boarding passes, parking tickets, and even loyalty cards.

When an event, flight, or train ticket is booked, the confirmation details sent to your Gmail account will also appear on the Google Wallet app for easy access. There’s a perk for Pixel phone users; boarding passes can be added to the Google Wallet app by simply taking a screenshot of the same and selecting the “Add to Google Wallet.” option.

There’s an option to create a pass using a photo with a QR code. One thing to note is that the Transport Pass section shows only global operators. We can expect this to change soon.

Google has collaborated with PVR & INOX, Air India, Indigo, Flipkart, Pine Labs, Kochi Metro, Abhibus, and more to make the experience more convenient. The app can also be a corporate badge for easier workplace access. Google has partnered with Wavelynx and Alert Enterprise for this.

In the US, there’s the ability to store debit and credit cards but this seems to be lacking in India. This could be because Google Pay will continue to operate for payment needs and is not going away. The app is one of the most used UPI apps in India. Google Wallet also focuses on security and offers features like 2-step verification, Find My Phone and remote data erase. It also lets you choose the share you share with third parties.

Google says the Google Wallet app is now available for all Android users in India and we expect everyone to get it gradually.
