Apple will reportedly launch both iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max with tetraprism lens.
The company launched only the iPhone 15 Pro Max with the tetraprism lens this year.
Apple is planning to increase the sizes of iPhone 16 Pro models, which will allow space for the special telephoto lens on both phones.
Apple launched the iPhone 15 Pro Max earlier this year along with the iPhone 15 Pro at the Wonderlust event earlier this year. The top-of-the-line model featured a new Tetraprism zoom lens design with up to 5x optical zoom support. The smaller 15 Pro didn’t get the same lens because the size of the tetraprism telephoto lens was significantly larger and wouldn’t fit on the smaller model.
There have been reports from Ming-Chi Kuo and The Elec earlier claiming that Apple will equip both iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max with the advanced telephoto lens next year. Both iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max Will Come With a Tetraprism Telephoto Lens
The tetraprism telephoto zoom lens is designed to emulate the results of a 120mm lens of a full-frame camera.
As mentioned before, Apple equipped the iPhone 15 Pro Max with an advanced tetraprism telephoto lens but not the smaller 15 Pro. The reason behind the lens being exclusive to the Pro Max variant is that the tetraprism telephoto lens wouldn’t fit the 6.1-inch frame of the smaller Pro variant. But if the latest report is to be believed, both iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will feature the tetraprism telephoto lens next year. This is good news for those who want all Pro features but not the bulk of the Pro Max model.
According to MacRumors, Apple is planning to increase the overall dimensions of the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. As per the report, Apple will increase the size of the iPhone 16 Pro from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches and the iPhone 16 Pro Max from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches. This increase in size will allow Apple to fit the new tetraprism telephoto camera in the 16 Pro model as well.
MacRumors claims to have seen internal Apple documentation that corroborates the fact. According to the documents, the camera module design of the 16 Pro seems to be similar to the one on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. MacRumors claims that the tetraprism components on the iPhone 16 Pro can be easily identified at a glance in the internal documents. However, the publication does include a disclaimer that this is pre-production information and should be taken with a pinch of salt.
