Microsoft Surface Pro 6
The Microsoft Surface Pro 6 is a 2-in-1 device. It can be used as a tablet with its hinge closed, or as a laptop with its hinge opened and keyboard attached. Speaking of the keyboard, it has to be purchased separately (at least in India). The Microsoft Surface Pro 6 is known for its design and build quality as it features a magnesium unibody that is light-weight and sturdy.
The Microsoft Surface 6 Pro has a 12.3-inch touchscreen display with 2736 x 1824 resolution. Although Microsoft doesn’t mention this on its website, the display uses IPS LCD technology. There is also an ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen depending on the surrounding lighting. The device has one USB 3.0 Type-A port, one Mini Display port, one Surface Connect port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a microSDXC card reader. Although this is a new device, it does not feature a USB Type-C port, which I think is a huge drawback. Wireless connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi ac, and Bluetooth v4.2.
The Microsoft Surface Pro 6 offers an 8MP rear-facing camera with autofocus and a 5MP front-facing camera with fixed focus. Both cameras can record videos at Full HD resolution. The front-facing camera also features Windows Hello based face recognition for unlocking the device. As this is a convertible device, it comes packed with accelerometer and a gyroscope sensor to track the orientation of the device. Microsoft claims the Surface Pro 6 to offer up to 13.5 hours of battery backup on a single charge. Needless to say, it comes pre-loaded with the Windows 10 operating system.
The Microsoft Surface Pro 6 comes in four configurations in India. The base variant has quad-core eighth-generation Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage, while the top of the line variant has quad-core eighth-generation Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. For a detailed breakdown of each variant, refer to the table above.
Microsoft Surface Laptop 2
The Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 has a traditional laptop design. It features an aluminum body, which is praised for its low weight and premium feel. The laptop has a 13.5-inch touchscreen display with 2256 x 1504 resolution. Similar to the Surface Pro 6, even this laptop uses IPS LCD display and has an ambient light sensor. The display also has Gorilla Glass 3 protection over it.
The Surface Laptop 2 is very poor in terms of wired connectivity; it features only one USB Type-A port, one Mini Display port, one Surface Connect port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. There is no USB Type-C port in spite of being a device that launched in 2018. There should have at least been two USB Type-A ports in my opinion. As for the wireless connectivity, there is dual-band Wi-Fi ac and Bluetooth v4.2.
The Surface Laptop 2 comes with an HD camera at the front which has Windows Hello face authentication. There are stereo microphones and Omnisonic speakers with Dolby Audio Premium. Microsoft claims the Surface Laptop to offer 14.5 hours of battery backup on a single charge.
The Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 comes in four configurations in India. The base variant has quad-core eighth-generation Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage, while the top of the line variant has quad-core eighth-generation Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage.
