- OnePlus 12 features the most extensive cooling setup in its flagship series, with two Dual Cryo Velocity Vapor Chambers providing a massive 9,140 mm² area for heat dissipation.
- The innovative cooling design actively targets the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, batteries, and wireless charging system, preventing the phone from overheating during high-performance tasks.
- Beyond cooling, OnePlus surprises users with a split battery setup, allowing simultaneous charging of each half via 50W wireless or 100W wired connections, along with added durability features against water damage.
OnePlus has just dropped its latest flagship, the OnePlus 12, and tech enthusiasts are buzzing about its cooling system. In a teardown by Zack Nelson from JerryRigEverything, we’re given close look at what makes this phone stand out.
What’s catching everyone’s attention? It’s the two vapour chambers tucked inside, making it the most extensive cooling setup ever seen in a OnePlus device. Known for delivering bang for the buck, OnePlus is taking a unique approach to tackle the heating problem that often plagues high-performance smartphones.
The vapour chambers, dubbed Dual Cryo Velocity Vapor Chambers by OnePlus, are stacked on each other, offering a massive 9,140 mm² area for heat dissipation. As Nelson digs into the phone, we see a sheet of copper-like material housing a fluid-filled thin gap. This fluid circulates through capillary action, aided by a mesh within the chamber, ensuring effective temperature control.
Why does this matter? Well, heat is the enemy of performance, and OnePlus is making a bold move to keep the OnePlus 12 cool under pressure. The innovative design isn’t just for show – it’s actively cooling the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, batteries, and wireless charging system.
According to Nelson, it’s a smart move by OnePlus to prevent the phone from becoming uncomfortably warm, making it more of a design choice than a flaw.
But the cooling game isn’t the only highlight. The OnePlus 12 surprises with a split battery setup, letting you charge each half simultaneously, whether using the 50W wireless charging or the 100W wired connection. Plus, OnePlus is throwing in rubber rings, gaskets, and ribbon cable connectors to protect against water damage, adding an extra layer of durability.
The OnePlus 12 teardown provides a sneak peek at how OnePlus is shaking up the cooling game in the smartphone world. It will be interesting to see whether other performance-focused flagship smartphones will adopt this design in the future or not.
