As is inevitable with any device approaching its official launch, details about the product often leak out to offer an early glimpse at what to expect. We’ve already seen a number of details about the Nokia 9 and the latest one confirm the Penta-Lens array on the rear of the device.
It is not unusual for case makers to preempt the design of an unreleased device in an attempt to be one of the first to market on the off chance that the leaked details are accurate. Usually, consumers after receiving their brand new device following launch will instantly head to go and get a case. Being one of the first manufacturers to offer a case for a new device is worth a lot of traffic so waiting for the product to be officially released to then begin designing cases is often costly.
It can come of no surprise then that ahead of the official December 5th launch event for the Nokia 9 in Dubai we’re seen a custom cover appear on Amazon UK, France, Italy, and Spain that will accommodate the Penta-Lens setup for the Nokia 9 PureView camera. The company selling the cases, UniqueMe, claims that the cases will be in stock from December 1, 2018, suggesting that Europe will be the target market for the release of the device.
The various leaks that have surfaced around the Nokia 9 will bring a Penta-Lens setup as part of the PureView camera. There have been rumors that the multiple camera lenses work together as a form of a miniature zoom camera in line with a patent granted to Zeiss, who often partner with Nokia devices in the camera department. We’ve previously reported leaks that show off the device that kicked off the crazy idea of a multiple rear camera array and also highlighted the PureView branding. The lens setup will see five cameras paired with a flash and depth-sensor to make a total of seven cameras in total. The resultant image would presumably be better than anything we’ve seen on a smartphone to date and can predict the marketing will be heavily focused on highlighting the capability of this unprecedented setup, hence the PureView branding.
Nokia 9 PureView Rumored Specifications
According to recent reports, the Nokia 9 PureView is internally codenamed ‘Olympic’ and is rumored to see a dual glass design embedded either side of a metal frame. The glass design lends suggestion that the device could support wireless charging, which is also reinforced by HMD Global having two certified wireless chargers. The pure existence of these wireless chargers means that there should be no reason to omit wireless charging from the Nokia 9.
The device was earlier spotted on the FIH update server, running the Android 9 Pie and a lot of Nokia devices have got the Android 9 Pie beta updates. Three of them are running the stable OS build, which would suggest, combined with the launch timing, that the Nokia 9 PureView should ship with the latest Android 9 Pie.
Furthermore, the smartphone is expected to feature a USB Type-C port, and there will be no 3.5mm headphone jack. On the display front, the Nokia 9 PureView could sport a 5.9-inch QHD display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. Under the hood, there will be Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, presumably with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. The device could be powered by a massive 4,150mAh battery and the device is expected to be water and dust resistance.
