Nothing is reportedly in the development of the upcoming Nothing Phone (2a) smartphone. The forthcoming (2a) is smartphone is said to be the budget-friendly variant of the Nothing Phone (2) smartphone. Yogesh Brar, a well-known tipster claims in a new post in X (formerly Twitter) that he has seen the prototype of the upcoming (2a) smartphone and revealed some key details.

The upcoming budget Nothing Phone (2a) was also spotted in the BIS certification, confirming the India debut of the forthcoming device.

Nothing Phone (2a) Design and Chipset Details

The tipster revealed the design elements of the upcoming smartphone through his post on X (formerly Twitter). Yogesh Brar notes that Nothing will equip the device with a punch hole to house the selfie camera in the center of the display. The rear of the device will sport dual cameras, which are horizontally placed instead of vertically placed on other Nothing smartphones.

Nothing will also continue the LED glyph setup from the Nothing Phone (1) and Nothing Phone (2) smartphones. The BIS certification of the device revealed that the upcoming Phone (2a) will sport the model number A142. Dylan Roussel, an Android app developer on X (formerly Twitter), shared an animation video and the chipset details of the upcoming Phone (2a).

The tipster divulges that the forthcoming Nothing smartphone will sport the codename Pacman or Aero. The animation video shows a design similar to the existing Nothing smartphones on the front. The rear will feature a dual-rear camera setup in a horizontal position, according to Brar.

Nothing will equip the dual rear cameras on the centre of the smartphone with three LED glyphs surrounding the camera island. The circular camera island in horizontal placements offers a fresh design in comparison to the existing smartphones. According to the leak, Nothing will equip the upcoming Phone (2a) smartphone with the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 chipset.

The upcoming Phone (2a) will be the first Nothing smartphone to sport a MediaTek chipset. The chipset will be built on a 4nm process and features two Cortex A715 cores at 2.8GHz, six Cortex A510 cores at 2.0GHz, and a Mali-G610 MP4 GPU. To recall, iQOO and Vivo launched the iQOO Z7 Pro 5G and Vivo T2 Pro 5G smartphones with the same chipset in India.

A previous leak reveals that the Phone (2a) will sport 6.7-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate. The punch hole in the display will house the 16MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. The dual rear cameras are likely to sport 50MP primary and 8MP ultrawide lenses.

The device will pack aa larger 4920mAh battery and debut with Android 14 out of the box. The upcoming Nothing smartphone is slated to debut at the MWC 2024 event. Nothing has already started sending out the invites for the upcoming event.

The Nothing Phone (2a) will also mark a departure from the company’s existing price strategy. So far, the company has targeted customers in the premium mid-range segment with its smartphones (Rs 35,000 and above price mark). However, many customers in India prefer to buy a smartphone in the mid-range segment (Rs 15,000 to 25,000) rather than the premium mid-range segment.
