POCO X6 First Impressions: Important Upgrades at an Aggressive Price Point

JOIN US

Over the last few years, the POCO X series has bridged the gap between its flagship F-series and affordable M-series. We have seen some great products in this series like the POCO X4 and POCO X5. So, naturally, the POCO X6 has some big shoes to fill.

With a starting price of Rs 19,999 (including bank offer discount), does the POCO X6 have enough firepower to take on the established knights of this price segment? While that’s a discussion tabled for our review, which will come soon, here’s us expressing our initial thoughts on our first impressions!

POCO X6 First Impressions: Pricing and Availability in India

The POCO X6 is available in two storage configurations. The base model comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage, while the top-end variant offers 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage.

The handset will be available for purchase from Flipkart and it will be available for pre-booking from 8:00 PM IST from the e-commerce store. The phone will be available for open sale starting from January 16, 2024, at 12:00 PM. Here’s a variant-wise breakup of the latest POCO model:

Variant Price
8GB RAM + 256GB Storage Rs 19,999
12GB RAM + 512GB Storage Rs 22,999

Do note that these prices are inclusive of Rs 2,000 instant discount on ICICI Bank credit/debit cards and EMI transactions. Moreover, one can also get Rs 2,000 off on an exchange offer as well.

POCO X6 First Impressions: Inside the Retail Box

The POCO X6 retail box looks elegant with its black and yellow colour approach. The unboxing experience is pretty much the same as most phones and you get:

  • A black TPU case
  • User manual
  • POCO X6 device
  • SIM ejector tool
  • 67W power adapter
  • USB Type-A to USB Type-C charging cable

POCO X6 First Impressions: Design

The POCO X6 comes with an improved design language as compared to its predecessor, the POCO X5. The phone looks more premium and sleek than its earlier version with rounded edges and flat back design.

The phone is available in two colour options, including Mirror Black and Snowstorm White. We got the former for review and it outright looks gorgeous. The back panel draws inspiration from the glossy rears of higher-end phones, and as a result, is prone to smudges.

The camera modules are slightly raised, which makes it wobble on flat surfaces. The front panel comes with a punch-hole camera module along with a large screen with minimal bezels. The volume controls and power on/off buttons are placed on the right side. The top edge comes with a 3.5mm audio jack, a speaker grille, and an IR blaster, while the bottom features a SIM slot, a USB Type-C port, and a speaker grille.

POCO X6 First Impressions: Display

The POCO X6 has a new 6.6-inch AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution. The display protection has been upgraded to Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. The 120Hz refresh rate makes your inputs feel faster. Our favourite addition is 1800 nits of peak brightness, which is essential for harsh Indian summers.

POCO X6 First Impressions: Cameras

The POCO X6 features an almost similar triple-camera setup as compared to its predecessor. However, instead of 48MP in POCO X5, you get a 64MP primary sensor with OIS support with the all-new POCO X6. Moreover, the handset also features an 8MP wide-angle lens and a 2MP macro sensor.

On the front, the company has also upgraded the sensor and you now get a 16MP front-facing camera instead of a 13MP present on the X5.

POCO X6 First Impressions: Hardware

The latest POCO model comes equipped with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor. The same chipset also powers the Redmi Note 13 Pro and much-needed improvement over its predecessor. The model offers up to 12GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 512GB of UFS 2.2 storage.

The model runs on MIUI 14, which is based on the Android 13 operating system. Backing it up is a 5,100mAh battery with 67W fast charging support, which we will be putting test very soon. On paper, it is an improvement compared to the POCO X5 model, which featured a 5,000mAh and 33W fast charging support.

Initial Thoughts

From a glance, the POCO X6 seems to be a worthy upgrade over its predecessor. The performance, design language or camera setup and even the charging wattage have all received love.

All this, squeezed into a sub-Rs 20,000 effective price makes a lucrative pick. But, it stands against established competitors, such as the OnePlus Nord CE 3 Lite and the Moto G84. We’ll express our final thoughts and verdict in our review, so keep an eye out for this space.
