Sony has announced a new PlayStation 5 (PS5) feature to simplify inviting players to multiplayer sessions. In its official blog, the company has announced that PS5 players can generate a shareable invite link on their PS5 consoles or PlayStation app in the coming months. This link can be shared with other players via instant messaging or social media. Let’s look at the new PS5 multiplayer invite system announced by the brand.

The shareable link will take the receiver directly to the sender’s multiplayer session and start playing. For the uninitiated, currently, PS5 users need to add players to their PSN or PlayStation Network profile to play multiplayer games with them. The new invite link will remove this step from the multiplayer gaming process on the PS5 console.

According to Sony’s blog post, the new feature is designed to complement the existing methods of joining a multiplayer session from within a PS5 game. The feature will be available for any supported PS5 games.

PS5 users must generate a QR code from the game lobby and scan it using the PlayStation app on their smartphone to generate the link. The link can be directly generated from the PlayStation app itself. The receiver must have the PlayStation app installed and logged in to join the multiplayer session.

Apart from this, Sony has also announced a new live multiplayer widget for Discord. The widget will show whether the multiplayer session is still active and the live progress. The company further announced that link shareability would also be extended to the PlayStation Profile. This can be generated using the PlayStation App, the PS5 console, or the web profile on PlayStation.com.

Moreover, Sony also states that since it’s a new technology, some players might need to install an update before using it. The update will roll out in the coming months.
